Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Calling out a Spade for a Spade

Does anyone have a tip for discretely or cleverly challenging a TL or manager for the value that they add (fiscal, people development, or any other category)? And making visible this lack of value to the organization? Have a new one as a result of wokeness that is detracting value in multiple categories. Nothing personal to this person who probably also feels useless but of course cannot express that emotion.

[discretely ... challenging a TL]. The only way is to try to bypass above or sideways, but here is no percentage in this game as it just make you seem the back stabber. Just move on to a new assignment. Bad managers in Chevron never get removed by day to day actions, they just get shuffled into lower value positions until the next major reorg.

I had a lead engineer who only forwarded emails and insisted on being cc’d on anything I sent. He also s3xually harassed people, including me (a male), and looked at pr0n on his computer. He was given a screen shield so other people couldn’t see his screen. Still with the company. Thanks for the memories, TJ.

Being a ‘white knight’ will get you nowhere, Chevron management does not want to hear that they made a bad choice. You will be marked as a traitor to the ‘country club’. Discreetly manage your move out of the team, at worst this person will be promoted to another group in 18 months.

Have a sit down and offer your help on how they can improve.

You're wasting your time doing this. They are in control and won't relinquish that just because you might think that you have embarrassed them. They will move on to another role and promotion while you are still stewing in your own juices.

CSOC has an anonymous feature. We used to use it all the time for lighting people up. Now days I am not sure about workday if it was anonymous feature or not. I know someone lit up a project manager on poll EV. It’s anonymous. The key is if it’s your direct supervisor you will be crushed like a bug if they find out

Sounds like you need to move on from the corporate world if it bothers you. You'd be hard pressed to show actual business value from any number of positions... but you'd be smarter to worry about your own position and the value you bring. If you're not in one of the new 'woke' positions, you're in a position where, in 2022, cuts would be made far before the woke positions.
Seriously. Worry about you and your work.
