Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What are GMs and Supervisors saying and being told about RTW?

From what I understand LT have been in supervisor meetings about RTW. What sort of questions are being asked and what answers are being given?

For example, are supervisors being judged on how many of their employees badge in/out and how often? Are their metrics being set?

You have that wrong. As professionals they count the hours you are on the job. If you get your work done in one hour and fu-k off for the rest of the day you should be fired. In that case you are lazy and not am ambitious sort. We don’t need these people at the company. They are a drag on the organization.

Most Chevron employees are professionals, not hourly. So, your boss should not care if or when you work but rather what you produce. If you do good work in just an hour per day, so be it. If it takes you 12 hours, boo hoo for you.

Our TL explained core hours as being in-office hours, not work hours. Basically, allowing us to continue working from home early or late. I'm planning to WFH from 7 until 830 and leave the office at 3 on the days my dog is home alone- but continue WFH at 330 through 6.

She also said that she'd have flexibility for the first month or so as we all settled in.

The core hours idea was a mistake because a huge fraction of the employees misunderstand it as the minimum hours you need to be in the office. Thus, some were only showing up to work for six hours when it was 9-3. 8-3 gets them there for seven hours so a big improvement. I am aware of vanpools which follow this rule - drop off at 8:30 and pick up at 3:30. Their claim is they have a long commute so it is fair. On top of that, some of the same vanpoolers took 45 min in the gym and an hour lunch.

Flex hours. I want to hear about that. Is this for good or just to get us back in the groove

You should go expat so that you can work in the back seat of your car while your personal driver gets you to the office and the company pays for both your kids boarding school in Switzerland and the R&R money to get you to Switzerland for the bi-annual visit

@1edy, people living in popular burbs takes at least an hour from dropping off kids at 7:30am, the earliest school dropoff. Core hours had always been 9-3. Even Exxon has 9-3 as core hours.

What’s the over/under on how long we think hybrid will last? I was guessing at least 12 months, but that was before we were the only major with a couple “wtf” asterisks on our earnings.

I can get to work in well under 30 min if wife can’t drop the kids at school.

Core hours were always 9am-3pm. 8am sharp would sc--w families dropping off kids at school before commuting. Most schools don't accept kids til 7:30.

@bvc+1ffZet9U, your info is incorrect. Our managers just reminded us that we have core hours established already for quite sometime, and those go from 8 am to 3 pm during which everyone is expected to be working in company premises/offices except for the lunch break. Same guidelines for office presence apply for the hybrid model during office days.

I will go to Lekki in a second, rather than staying a city like Houston where id--ts drive the pickup trucks aggressively at 90 MPH in the slow lane and shoot at you if you do not get out of “their way”. The only time this is not the case is during commute when they move at 10 MPH but still shoot at you if they feel like it.

Sign me up for one of those W Africa spots right now. Two or three years from now someone else can have my spot and worry about all this mess.

@teq, yes, I worked in one of the West African countries for a few years. Yes, the pay premium is good, but the price you pay in 1) limited resources (especially family resources), 2) having to work 60 hour weeks, and 3) being 'forgotten' by those back in Houston is hardly worth it. Basically time lost.

SG: "get back to the office, stop whining, supervisors have full discretion but you and your folks better be here Tue, Wed and Thurs!"
Runny nose Dr. who couldn't complete a sentence: "For those that are vax'd, we praise you almighty, we welcome you back with open arms. For those that are not, you POS will be discriminated against and shamed" why? "because that is the way it is"
LZ: "don't worry, be happy"

Search the intranet for these words: leading jo--t call Jan mp4

You’ll probably find a recording of the Jan 4 discussion. I particularly like the part where our CDO (lol, wut?) complains about how she hasn’t had anybody to make her food or coffee while she works at home. 26:40 mark

We were told to be accommodating at least thru the release of salary adjustments since that was expected to be a very difficult message for most.

What has been communicated to us about our teams is to use our own judgement and that we can be flexible to people's situations. We are allowing people to work flex hours meaning 5 hours in the office and rest at home.

The money is really good in West Africa. Those jobs are highly coveted.

Low-level managers were reminded to tow the company line. Those who disagree will find their careers stalled, or they'll be transferred to an office in West Africa.

There was a whole lot of nonsense and you will all learn about it next week. We were pretty much sworn to secrecy to the preserve a strong wall between employees and management. Be patient.
