Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I just received an AT&T check

I just don't get it. I thought it was a joke. Wells Fargo said no, it's real.
Pay to the order of ME. $2,758.15
For what? Don't get me wrong - money for nothing is great but I don't have any AT&T services but I am an employee. You would think that there would be some sort of explanation? There's not. Just a check in a AT&T envelope. I'm keeping the money but I'm confused. Hoping that they send more. How many of us are getting free money? I wonder if someone in Pakistan punched the wrong button?

Isn't that your annual subsidy you get if you retired by the end of 2020? $2750 for singles, $4200 for employee and spouse...

Your state welfare office. There will be some paperwork required.

You gave the company an interest free loan without consent for probably years.

The check was attached to a piece of paper that tore off at the bottom, had a reference number and amount and dated. It didn't have a description as to reason why I got it. It could have been anything from bonus to refund to services rendered. No English/Spanish/French or written language reason. Nothing. Don't know why I got it but it came in an ATT envelope addressed to me at my home address. My paycheck is direct deposit so the actual check is a mystery. I'm not complaining and I'm not calling to find out why I received it. Hopefully the checks keep coming. Besides, as far as I can tell we don't have a payroll or HR anymore - we have to ask our boss and I don't know who he asks. I wonder if it's the result of some Stankey off shore shananagins. Oh well.

There should be a remittance attached to the check, that indicates the purpose of the check, and a payout reference number.

trust me it isn't money for nothing and it is probably money att stolen from you and is probably only giving about 25% of it back.
