Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Everybody is covering their own behind

How do we expect to finish anything successfully when the focus is always on the wrong thing? It's not about finishing a project anymore and working together to achieve it. These days, everybody likes to focus on finding who to blame for a problem instead of finding a solution. Talk about messed up priorities...

I did figure that out. Honeywell is so overbloated with managers that nothing gets done. I mostly figured it was another HR troll trying to blame the rank and file for the regular management crack pipe fantasy: the expectation that individual contributors will deliver miracles via 60-hour weeks for pesthole wages. It's an abusive relationship spawned by the toxic culture of greed through fear and intimidation. Just the typical MO and another average day at Honeywell. But, my manager is truly an engineer and has come up with two very good solutions to major problems in the last few months. That means he'll probably be leaving Honeywell in short order like me.

@w-p. Surely you figured out that @op was a manager didn’t you? They are complaining about the project leads who keep expecting them to solve “project problems”. Call them if you need TP in the bathroom.. oh wait that was outsourced…. I have no idea why I would ever call a manager now that I think about it.

I don't look for anyone to blame. I itemize the roadblocks and escalate to management for removal and prioritization. That's their job. I don't try to do it for them. I don't take repsonsibility for not meeting deadlines that were set without my input and I don't do more than 40 hours in a week. The people that created the problems need to suffer the consequences of their poor choices. And that ain't me.

What is so unusual about that?
This is the normal human reaction anytime a group of people has no control of the end goal or scope and insufficient resources to reach that target. Leaders force this dysfunctional team mind-state by setting “big hairy goals” and not providing the resources to reach them. Sometimes it is a useful mind state if a team needs a kick to get moving.. staying in that state results in potentially life threatening stress (think work place violence.. ) and organizational failure.
