Stay ws32 craft (26 years) or take wfh job as 1b management with non exempt opportunity for overtime. Right now I’m leaning staying craft for the job security. Doesn’t sound to me the higher pay in management is worth worrying about constant surpluses. If I can do it from home , how long till they send the job overseas. The job is CPE tech support position. Would like to hear arguments FOR taking the position.

Yea play it safe for the next 4-9 years, or change it up. It’s not always about the money, if you’re bored or broken down physically why not switch it up. You only live once, try something new.
Is this how you make all your life decisions, by group consensus? Just do it for the adventure of it. Playing it safe is not always the right move. Playing it safe makes for boring stories for the grandkids.
Stoopid post. Sounds like your minds already made up to stay in craft. Non-exempt = OT eligible. Nobody cares about your 26 years of service in the mgmt side of the house, only what actual experience and skills you bring to the table. The union does not care about or reward such things. Make whatever decision is the best for you.

Mgmt with OT? Of course take it.
Not worth it. Even a level 2 Area Manager role isn’t worth it. Tons of headaches, probably make less money and expected to work 24/7/365 with no overtime or comp time. Definitely don’t do it. Ride out your role and retire.
Taking managment hasn’t been worth it for the last 20 years. For every success story you’ll hear 10 nightmares.
Btw, when I interviewed for the LCE and Engineering positions for construction, they said the jobs were basically for about 2-4 years for the fiber build and could very well go away after that.
I also have 26 years and I’m guessing you are either an FT, ET or DT with BellSouth based on your mention of being wage scale 32. If you’re a FT that does a lot of copper splicing and the work is taking a physical toll on you, then the 1B job might be the right job. But giving up the OT, the extra week of vacation and some of your benefits as well as your seniority is a pretty tough sell. Is this job in another city that you want to relocate to?
Btw, I interviewed for a couple of management jobs in Florida and they weren’t going to give me a pay raise over my current salary. The best they said they would do is bridge my current pay because I already made more than anyone on the team, even without the OT. Don’t assume that they will actually give you the 10 percent raise. HR can be really shady when it comes to what they give your versus what they offer.
I’ve been management for 25 years. I’d never leave a bargained for position today to take a low level management job. You’ll make less, and don’t forget to factor in that you’ll be paying higher premiums for your medical coverage too. There’s no upside to it. Lower pay, less Job security, and probably more headaches.
Skip 1b go to area manager. Better pay and bigger office.

If this is something you are actually debating in your mind, it’s clear your only smart enough to take the management position.

I was in the same position as you with the same amount of time. I declined the position because I was losing more than I was gaining. It wasn't worth it and at the time the threat of layoff was looming daily. Bad choice if you take it!
