People seem to be warning about layoffs and threatening with layoffs all the time and it's been how long since there was a major round? Could it be that things are not as bad as some would like to paint them? I know this will be downvoted into oblivion, but these are just the facts, people.

Here is a FACT. Wireless/Mobility will see a layoff this year because of the following reason.
Umts service will be turned off by the end of February.
That equipment will be powered down and along with it a major amount of daily maintenance work for network operations people will disappear.
Cloud technology and moving to a truly software defined network where equipment is $110 for a generic box and you load your own software on it means less costly equipment and less technically trained people are needed = cheaper labor. higher speed backbones with lager capacity means even transport groups are not safe. Loyalty with ATT is expected to be a one way street. Get what you can while you can.
stank doesn't care he has to shore up his image so he is working on that currently don't worry layoffs will come.
Eligible for retirement, but don’t want to leave because the job is way too easy! There is hardly any work and we spend most days with nothing to do. If T wants to pay people to stay out of site from their supervisors because there’s very little work, then it makes no sense to leave. If it ever gets busy again and the way things are looking, it won’t for a while, then I’ll re-evaluate my position and perhaps, decide it’s time to retire!
The days of major layoffs have been over for years....the company simply assigns a percentage of reduction to each business unit , EVERY quarter. You may not be impacted every quarter, but rest assured, someone will be knocking on the door when you least expect it....
the work environment is trash. the company financials are trash. look around, those that can leave do. for qualified individuals there are opportunities with stock options that can change lives. this is what it is, you can collect a check and not do too much
You can’t cut your way to growth. Maybe they’ve realized it. Cutting the dividend by half won’t hurt.
I believe there was a lawsuit settlement & a bargaining agreement that said no layoffs thru end of 22
It happens in cycles. They will go through a period of downsizing for awhile. Then start hiring again when they can't keep up with the level of work needed to turn a profit. This has been going on for years. One thing for sure is that employee layoffs is a measure att is very comfortable using at any time if there is a short term benefit to the business.

No need for a formal layoff when you make it better to take retirement or resign than staying. Stankey and execs on record stating that they don't need to pay people to leave. Organizations hiring are for the most part replacing workers, not growing -- if you call that health and good shape maybe you need to dust your trophy that everyone got.
Let's all gather 'round the campfire, hold hands, and sing kumbaya. Then we can all enjoy our smores! Stankey and Stephenson have done more damage to this company than is readily apparent. It will take at least a decade to recover, assuming recovery is even possible.
You must be new to be asking if AT&T really does lay offs. We are not here to convince you of anything being true. Your question is stupid. Of course AT&T does lay offs, perhaps not in your region or department but they completed a round on the west coast last year. You want to hear about sunshine and rainbows go to Disneyland or call your management team. This space is used to keep in touch with any information across company wide changes.
I believe you might be right about T being in better shape than people on this site tend to believe simply due to the fact that business units are still hiring. They’re either backfilling personnel lost to retirements or just growing the business units. I am seeing this with my own eyes in various areas in my state. People, keep in mind that T is a money making machine that has spent a fortune on new spectrum, so once they get their debt under control, streamline the business moving forward and get back to what it does best, T should be in very good shape! That seems to be the plan!
