Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Would you report this???

I need some advice . I work in a small department and we had someone who took leave due to medical . The associate extended the leave three times but I found out they actually are fine and feel better but want to come back after the holidays . The only reason it’s bothering me is because I have asked for several times off but was told no even though I have the pto because we are short staffed . It’s affecting me because I have so many days I was said I can’t take off . Thank you I just needed advice

You are really toeing the line by even questioning a persons leave being valid or not. HIPPA would eat you alive before do you get out the door after termination.

There are many ways you could be on leave and not all of them are a physical or medical reason.

If you aren’t getting time off that you request then just start calling in and using PPTO. You get 48 hours of PPTO a year plus 4 points before termination. I tell my managers it’s not a “Time Off Request” it’s a “I’m not gonna be here this day” notification for them.

If you think you are going to force the associate to come back and your days off will be approved - no, it doesn't work like that. You can't win. You won't win. Other associates will find out and you will be ostracized.

Sounds like insurance fraud on part of doctor and associate. Report to their insurance company and get that doctor put out of business.

Don't report it because you don't really know the persons situation. Them getting in trouble isn't going to give you PTO approval any faster. You'll become known as a snitch and tattle tale. It does seem unfair and it would bother me greatly too.

Sounds like it isn't affecting you at sll, you are just jealous that they aren't working but you are.

You won't be reporting anything that can be deemed valid. Nothing you can do about their OWN PERSONAL PRIVATE business.

Honestly the excuse of being “short staffed”. Has been going on since the start of the Pandemic and is now going on 2 years. And for those of us who come to work and have to take on the extra work for those who don’t come to work we deserve a break and we deserve time off within reason. I request time off 6 months in advance and tell my Manager weeks and months in advance to please go in and approve and remind him often and he still ignores it up until a week before I need the day off. I always make sure there is coverage and always submit way ahead of time and remind the manger over and over again. And yet he ignores it, my advice is to open door it, raise he-l, push for every right that you have because there isn’t anyone advocating for you anymore. If that doesn’t work contact ethics. It’s immoral and unethical to deny or ignore requests off because of being “short staffed.” Managers are suppose to approve or reject requests within 7 days of the request being made. Sam’s Club will always be short staffed because payroll is the biggest controllable expense. But you earned that time. But on the flip side the holidays are the busy time and you might not always get exactly what you want.

Best advice is learn from this experience. If you want time off at critical staffing time like the holidays then you need to go ahead and do what us veterans of the company do. Put that time in 6 months ahead. (even if you don't need it you can just cancel it later) That way if they say its rejected because they are short staffed you just tell them you gave them half a years notice and that they had plenty of time to prepare and mention an ethics call. Likely somewhere in those six months some new managers will pop in and just rapid click approve it with out hassle or thinking about it. when all else fails, ppto combined with just calling out and your days off should give you a good amount of time whenever you need it. Strategize.
