UMTS shut down end of February. OPS layoffs to begin beginning of second quarter. Headcount to be slashed by 50% in large markets. Small markets by 30%.

Anyone with the least amount of knowledge or experience in Mobility would know shut down of that network will have no direct impact on headcount. That network currently does not require much if any maintaience. There are virtually no on using it. The company is always reviewing work loads, and they will make changes as needed. There's a whole department in mobility that tracks productivity and work load.
Ridiculous fake news. Shutdown will save money in the long run.
Work is slow all over technician jobs. It’s very slow in BFS getting only 3-4 service orders per week if even and they still want to hire more techs for the work that T expects to come in the future! Great business model for corporate America, but if it was my own business, I would be laying off techs because they’re sitting around more than half their days with nothing to do. T business model makes no sense other than to just keep technicians employed regardless of the low workload.
3G will be replaced with more 5G. It's not going to affect headcount. It will, however, affect certain "smart" cars and some other devices.
Speculation. Pure and simple. And to the id--t that said OPS is not dependable, I would say you have no clue what you are talking about. To make a claim with zero examples makes no sense.

Mobility Ops has too many techs….except when we don’t have enough techs. Case in point, daily work, too many techs, Growth work or projects, not enough techs to get the work and it is given to vendors.
Is this speculation? What is your source? I agree that surplus is likely, I am in Mobility OPS and we are way overstaffed for our limited work load. Excluding the large geographic area we often cover. With the UMTS shutdown the bulk of our current
maintenance will be reduced. Most LTE and 5g failures result from radio head failures tower mounted and we isolate the fault, but do not climb. Like landline we have some id--ts, but as another post here suggests we are not all slow and not dependable.
It is the 3G Network
no correlation.... OPS is being impacted because they are slow and not dependable. Would rather use OEM or Civil Vendor to get mobility network improvement completed.
