Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Time and Time again the AVPs and VPs

Come highly academically educated, MBAs, from some ATT rotation or push program and get slotted. Its like having a race car pit crew who's chief never changed a tire or turned a wrench. The lack of knowledge and experience is clearly evident so it takes many meetings and reviews to prepare this AVP or VP to "look good" in front of their superiors. Much time is wasted on the dog and pony shows and this AVP or VP is far more of a detriment to their organziation than asset. I have seen this scenario with 60-70 percent if the organziations that I have been a part of. ATT is a collaborative process of breeding incompetence and group think. How else in the world does a CEO address the employee base in Pajamas loiking the fool in the midst of layoffs and tumbling share price.

I had a president once say put the charts away and lets talk

tell me whats going on in the business ?

One hour later he said thank you for your honesty now lets work together to fix some of this cr-p

Hint - he is no longer here because this kind of executive doesnt survive with honest talk with employees

I have been in many prep for the prep for the prep meetings in preparation for an AVP/VP meeting. I too wanted to vomit as I was driving the deck and making the modifications. We would sometimes have 17 people on each of these multi- hour calls. I would want to scream after getting off these calls. They were so wasteful.

There are only so many hours in a day. The AVPs and VPs make a lot more than lower levels on the job, but they are jacked up 10-11 hours per day in meetings. Some of us work four hours and spend the rest of our time trading stock futures and make a lot more overall than any AVP or VP. Instead of worrying about them, figure out how to win by actually making more than them. That is what would really wound them emotionally... knowing that the underlings beat them at the big game. After all, the big game is always about the money.....

I forgot to add, it is fun and entertaining watching this AVP fail. But senior leadership won't let this person fail. They'll move them to another group, another org, all in under the guise of ""leadership development' and moving management around to get them 'experience'".

The MBAs and VPs they rotate in and out appear incompetent because they ARE incompetent. It's a f*g joke. A farce. I don't care how many degrees some AVP or VP has, it doesn't take a mental giant to STFU and listen to their subordinates try to explain and teach them.
A year ago I got so damn sick I wanted to vomit as I suffered thru a meeting with a young frat-bred AVP. This person had no intent of listening to staff explain how a system works. Instead this AVP was way too concerned with the coloring of the arrows on the powerpoint presentation and how large the damn text boxes were. A good 1 1/2 hours wasted because some egomaniac a$$ho-e child was trying to prove they knew more about presentations than actually listening to what others were trying to teach them.
One of the many reasons this company is going down the toilet.
