Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

How are we still able to attract employees?

I would think that anybody who knows how to use Google or any other search engine would know by now what a cr---y place this is and how badly it treats its employees. So how are people still happy to join this place? How are we able to recruit anybody? I know it's not the lack of available jobs, so what is it???

@5tyw+1e91cHDo I’m also a returning employee for the same exact reasons.

I'm going to be a returning employee. The simple answer is money. I know the hours are awful and that it's a disorganized mess, but it's a disorganized mess that's offering me 20% more than similar companies.

Because people are desperate. And outside of the small St. Louis I.T. circle, people don't really know how bad Centenes reputation is.

Explanation aside, I personally know that recruiters have to......get creative....with attractive candidates and really butter them up good if they are trying to find one for this place.

Working has become temporary. So, I'll take a job while I continue to look for a better one.

My goal is that my employer is only as valuable to me, as I am to them.

How is Centene able to attract people?

  1. You need the job. You're better than this, but you need the income.
  2. You're hired into a situation which works well for you -- decent manager (for now), hours, pay, remote, hybrid, or short commute. Not ideal, but you need to make the tradeoff.
  3. You need the experience in a particular sector to enhance your background for the next job (the lily pad tactic)
  4. You fit right into the dysfunction so this works REAL well for you

Everyone's situation is different. For the good ones--Even in the crappiest of companies people can and do find, for awhile, a decent situation. It generally doesn't last, but any port in a storm will do. It's best to walk in 'eyes open' and know when to hit the bailout bell.

Of course, there are people who like bad companies because they fit right in.

A company that’s puts their needs before the ppls needs that work for them, then make money off the ppl that are “ needie” and constantly saying how they are “ changing ppls life’s one person at a time” .. is a bunch of bullllllshottttt !!!! They need to think about how they treat the ppl and care about them internally. Oh that’s right they don’t care about internal or the “needie” they care about the Money!!!!!

Most corporate jobs these days are awful. It's not only centene. Not disagreeing that this place is cr-p but other companies aren't necessarily any better

because the pay is better than average. oh, and because not everyone is a crybaby with an unrealistic view of corporate America.
