Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Who’s really thinking about leaving now?

With the current state, low morale, HR doing everything they can to drive down costs and expected pay rises, should we expect a flood of people leaving soon or slowing down of attrition?

Didn't you listen to DW at his forum? We don't have an attrition problem and people are lining up to work here. #winning

I'm EMIT (about 8 years with XOM) and have been looking and interviewing for the past two months and only recently received an offer that wasn't a significant reduction in total remuneration, which I accepted and will be starting in mid-January. One observation from my efforts these past few months has been the absolutely INSANE number of Software Development/Engineering jobs there are out there, and how well they pay in terms of salary and benefits. Sadly, I don't have a lot of job experience in these areas, so my job hunt was more difficult and the offers less attractive... but if any of you hotshots still at XOM _do_ have this kind of experience, the field is RIPE with opportunities much, much better than XOM in almost every way. You would be a fool not to see what is out there and start applying places. I've already started a self-directed study routine, am working on various individual projects, and attending meet-ups to improve my coding/development skills and knowledge so I can hopefully break into that field with my new future employer (which they said such lateral movements are totally doable and normal).

Employee morale is at an all time low. So many of us are expected to be in person in the office although our supervisors and managers continue to work remotely - this really sets a great example. Other coworkers are no shows at all or have some crazy ‘agreement’ that allows them to work from home full-time. The message is not consistent and it really sucks.

Job moves are hard now with holiday schedules and such. Look for the next wave mid-January and going forward from there.

I have one interview next week, and another being set up. So, likely I’ll be part of that January wave.

Let's put it this way, controllers is very concerned about attrition between now and year end if February that they are trying to ensure we can close the books for year end. The corporation has insulted not only those of us in the US with the raises but many of the folks in the GBC's. From what we're hearing from counterparts in BA some have heard about their raises and it's going to get ugly

The management at EM are honestly the absolute worst people I’ve ever met.

I hope they fu----g rot.

I already have a final round (loop) interview with Amazon, with a start date in mid January if I get it. I will most likely be taking the offer, unless XOM makes some unbelievable raise. I make 85k with on call unpaid, and Amazon would be offering me 225k with no on call at all.

I am hoping for an attrition rate > 20% so maybe the board will open their eyes and oust DW (doubtful).
Anyone under 50 should be seriously looking elsewhere. Jumping ship and making a change is hard for a lot of people but most folks are good people and deserve better than XOM. Your health, both physically and mentally, as well as your self worth are so much more important than a job with XOM.

I have been thinking about leaving EM for a while now. It crosses my mind every day. It’s making me feel bad. Except I retired from EM in 2016; so there is that. But, if it was possible, I would leave EM twice or even three times or even more times than that even! So there EM, take that!!!

A lot of people are only "talking" about leaving, "complaining" how unhappy they are, "complaining" how low the morale was, but it is only blah blah blah...take actions by leaving the company if you can't handle it anymore...typical EM employees...good at blah blah blah...but bad at execution :p

I had high hopes, but based on the other posts preliminary data it's not looking good.

I'm strongly considering leaving before we hit February for sure.

I can’t believe how tone deaf EM leadership are, the culture, pay rises and how unattractive working for EM is. Just when you thought morale was improving, they go and shoot themselves again.

Let get ready for the next wave in 2022.
