Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Extra benefits only for newcomers

Who thinks the extra week of vacation given to <5 years and no one else is a slap to the face for those of us who have been here awhile and survived through all these layoffs? Most companies reward employees the longer they work there, whereas Chevron seems to punish those of us who have stuck around longer!

I’m a new hire and am pi---d I didn’t get 4 weeks of vacation as “promised, but not guaranteed”. What kind of double-talk is that?

When does it go into effect? I'm a new hire but haven't heard anything about an additional week of PTO

This is a great example of the boomer mindset that is holding Chevron back:

What?! These younguns are gettin a whole 3 weeks of vacation instead of 2?!
Clearly I'm being victimized by this. Their vacation time should be given over to me because I've sat in the same cubicle for 10 years!

Yes, it's very easy to be a free-loading parasite and always has been. Being a productive member of society is what takes an effort. Go figure.

Before you had nearly six months of 'short-term disability' (that is, sick days). At 10 years you get 4 weeks vaca. Now add in new-age family leave time, mental health days, etc., and you could get away with only working maybe two or three months a year. Add in WFH, and it's a breeze to take on a second job to fund your retirement, BMW, or Colorado 2nd home. Let the kids have their extra week vaca, the rest of the time they can do all the work while I'm watching my stock portfolio grow. Oh, and I'm not even a high-p-t. That's how easy it is.

Chevron is showing early signs of desperation attracting new employees. A couple years ago, bump everyone up a PSG (and $$$) for no apparent reason. Now offer an extra week vaca. All sugar coating to hide a stale work environment, and slowly eroding investment/retirement benefits. The "kids" will figure this out and quit before year 10.

What you id--ts are forgetting is that you are entitled to all your other annual leave. Can take five day of sick leave any time you want just by informing your supervisor. This includes mental health, ie. "sick of work". I normally take 2-3 weeks per year this way. I'll work Monday, then fall ill and be out for three days until my Friday off. There is also paid personal leave, which you can take another week per year by claiming a family member is gravely ill. Finally, you get paid family leave up to one week per year. All combined, you can easily get another month of paid vacation using these legitimate reason, assuming you don't actually get sick and/or need to use them for real. You are entitled to these days off, in cases by law, so use them and don't work "for free".

At TCO we all got 2 extra weeks in 2021 and will receive 3 in 2022.

Don't see the problem but then again everyone in the ABU is getting 2 additional weeks on top of our 6 we already get. (+ 2wks sick leave)

If they give the clueless woke fleabags just showing up extra vaca, they should give it to everyone. Fair is fair. After all, they are unproductive for the first couple of years anyway. Some of them would do a lot less harm if given more vacation, lol.

This is like worrying about some random teenager that gets to drive a nice car for their first vehicle but you had a beater when you were a teenage driver. Life isn’t fair, focus on something positive.

The new employees getting an extra week of vacation doesn’t take away from your balance. It really doesn’t affect you.

Two weeks vacation is paltry anyways, they should have more.

I agree. They need to reward the people who have stuck around though all the changes and layoffs.

How is that a punishment to you? It does not impact you.

So you having a job and the gracious benefits you do enjoy is a “Punishment”! Oh boy how did they pass you by in the last round!
