This isn’t about historical events, it’s about giving people spots that aren’t earned based on factors outside of their control. It’s not anyone’s fault what happened generations ago. Pay, promote, lift up based on merit not diversity metrics. This is why ATT stock is $25 per.

It really is quite funny to watch white people suddenly get all defensive and offended about race when for hundreds (if not thousands) of years they have benefited from overtly racist, bigoted, exclusionary, prejudicial, and discriminatory practices imaginable.

Yet the when they are presented with the slightest discomfort of being asked to acknowledge historical racism, they suddenly are all hurt and deeply damaged.

Keep crying, craKKKers. It's really funny.

You don’t end racism by promoting racism and that is exactly what this is.

lets use racism to get rid of racism.

sounds about stankey's and rands level.

Great diversion tactic Stankey. It will never work, can't sweep your poor performance under the rug. Focus on retiring the 180B in debt, that's what you need to do.

this is the sort of stuff the C-Suite does when the business is imploding and it still expects to be paid $15M/year. Create a bunch of antagonistic diversions and pander to The Mob so they don't picket outside your home or follow your kids or wife around threatening to "fluff them up".

Stinky is a coward, just like his hayseed predecessor.

Your white privilege is why AT&T struggles......not poor decisions from leadership like Stankey.

guess only way to get rid of posts like this and racism is to mix races.

Guess I should call HR to let them know my DNA has me as 17% Hispanic. Should I update my EEO classification?

Unless this is something recent i have never seen this type of training, mandatory or otherwise. Also i have never seen it tied to your end of year review. There was a social values question related to the review but i choose accessibility.

The company needs to focus more on reliable service and preserving dwindling market share, rather than unicorns and pi--e dust with these social justice causes that have nothing to do with the business.

I’m a supporter of diversity and equal opportunity and have been very proud of the company’s efforts. I was in the audience when Randall proclaimed “tolerance is for cowards” and I agree. But I am very concerned that abandoning equality for self-interested perversions of “equity” risks losing all the momentum gained for people of color. Calling white people fragile won’t make them more willing to champion change. Neither will telling some Italian born immigrant he is responsible for slavery in the US. At some point, the name calling and specious arguments just turn people off.

I remember growing up and learning to treat people the same way regardless of the color of their skin. And then I came to AT&T and had it reinforced in annual training that everyone had worth in the workplace and deserved equal opportunity. It’s bewildering that we’ve decided the remedy for racism outside of our workplace is to explicitly treat people differently in the workplace based on race. (I’m all for police reform. Bad cops should lose their jobs and be jailed if they violate civil liberties.)

I think racial sensitivity training is worthwhile, as well. It does seem, however, that is the only training I have received in the last couple years.

I like the fact that we have racial tolerance education. Its needed. It’s just that our leaders are so scared of appearing racist and losing their jobs that the training is outsourced to partisan interests groups and feels more like a Louis Farrakhan rally.
