Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

I would love to become a store manager

As for my SM, I don't understand how that person could have come to that position at all because he has no special skills nor is he a hard worker.
Can anyone tell me how I, as a cashier, could become a store manager one day? Is that even feasible? How long does it take to become a SM at Sam's?
I know, I’ll get a lot of downvotes, but I don’t need insults or sarcastic comments, but advice.

For what I've seen (20 + years) at Sam's, any trained monkey can be a store manager, kiss some a** , or sleep with someone in charge, work hard will take you longer but eventually if you're lucky there might be a slight chance; but again that's what I've seen.

I would apply elsewhere as a manager hired fresh off the street. Most companies now want to hire managers that they can train without the influences or bad habits that have been taught from employees that are already set in their ways.

Lets get real here ! It has been my experience with this company for 26 years and have witnessed and confirmed by many CM's, there is a lot of " a-s kissing " that takes place !
No need to elaborate !!!!!

You're best opportunity would be to work your way up the chain of command. You're next step would be to become a front end MSL, and then transition into becoming a fresh team leader. If you want to become a club manager you are going to need fresh experience and now is your opportunity to get it. After being a fresh leader you can enter the Manager in Training program or MiT for short, and if successful you will be given a list of management positions available to you within your region and you can choose whichever one you would like. From here you can either transition from front end or merch manager to a fresh assistant manager or if they really see that spark in you possibly go straight to co manager which is essentially a training position to become a Club Manager.

This company despite what everyone says has substantial room for growth and is entirely what you make of it, they compensate their fresh and club managers specifically very well. If you show the drive and initiative to move up the ladder and communicate with the proper people within your store/market you can make this transition in as little as about 5-6 years, but will most likely take longer if becoming a club manager isn't your main priority. I would also recommend you take the company up on their Live Better U college program. They pay for all tuition and textbooks now and it will cost you just a dollar a day to get your degree on your own time and terms.

Hard work, punctuality. Branch out when you can. If they need help in other areas, volunteer. Learn what you can. When lead positions post, apply. For the assessments, you have to be decisive. Never neutral. They want leaders who are decisive. Make it known to an AM you can trust that you want to move up. See what they can do to help you grow and improve and move up 1 step at a time. And yes it is very possible. Plenty of AMs start out as associates. Then AMs become Co or GMs
