Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

People will leave for other things

I only know a few people who were seriously considering leaving because of the vax mandate, but stayed because they couldn’t find another job since jab became mandatory almost everywhere. So I don’t believe that in total a lot of people left because of the vaccination. However, I know many of them who are leaving because of other things at NS. I have been here for a long time and never before have so many of my colleagues been urgently looking for a new job.

Rail road is too arrogant to realize it’s not the be all end all like it used to be. Younger generation has absolutely no interest in dealing with all the drawbacks of these jobs for mediocre money and benefits. Can’t treat people like disposable batteries and not come back to bite you at some point. Hoping for maximum damage.

Disability… I’d take 80% of something over 0% of nothing . Sad that this industry has came to this … Corporate greed has destroyed this industry. Good Luck finding younger folks to take this job . We had several hired and quit within 2 weeks .

It is trivial that people whom are vaccinated are so concerned with a fellow coworkers choice . If in fact the vaccine is so effective. The unions have taken NS to court over labor disputes due to deep cuts in labor What do you think will happen with a self inflicted labor shortage due to a Covid mandate / suggestion. I made a personal choice to get the vaccine . This is a great way to create a labor shortage to promote one man crews . Then they in fact get what they desire dividends and rich shareholders. Just an opinion…

Work 5-10 years as a new guy doing your time with bad days off on 2nd or 3rd shift only to find that due to layoffs that’s what you’re going to have as an older man with 20-25 years service. Can’t blame anyone for saying goodbye to this place. Most (not all) will make less money, but they will be happier people.
