Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Director Stock Options

I’m currently a L2 and making $150k a year. Looking at a L3 job and it shows almost the same salary + bonus.

I heard that L3’s don’t get a huge pay bump, but do get stock options. But I can’t find any details on them.

For current L3’s - what is the % you get paid additional in stock? How does it work, and when do you vest?

Also any other monetary benefits of being L3-L5?

OP is probably a wire tech that needs help terminating an rj45, T-568B or A. Fake post

Trust me it is just not worth it. Too much politics. I left to become an L2 individual contributor per choice and could not be happier. The pay is not that much more and I could care less about the stock options these days. Also, movement above L3 these days is practically impossible unless you are very, very, well connected or friends and family. Good luck.

60k sounds too good to be true
It would put the pay in 200k range

OP

Not sure why all the negative comments. Guess people are jealous?

I’m a hi-po L2 and was offered a L3 position. Of course I have to apply and interview, but I’m probably going to get the job.

T is very tight lipped about EXEC compensation. I can see salary and bonus on career intelligence but stock grants aren’t publicly shared.

Appreciate the person posting about $40k in stock grants vesting over 3 years. That’s exactly what I was looking for. So I’m planning for approx $20k in additional salary/bonus and $40k in stock. Just looking at career path I would think it’s just $20k - so thanks for sharing. $60k is well worth the additional work.

Again thanks for those who answered the question. No thanks for the jealous folks who just made snarky remarks.

bottom line for me as a high performing L2, I left T this summer. L3 wasnt work the stress, commute and ar-e kissing for a 5% (if that ) bump...you can leave T and get 30-40% bump if you are truly marketable.

If you don’t know about any of this you aren’t a hi-po L2 with mentors working with you. Keep applying on career path, good luck!

These are the questions one would normally ask in a job interview. If I were the hiring manager, I would not consider you as a viable candidate for the job. You don't wait and ask a 3rd party for their opinion on what your expected compensation should be. Man up and negotiate the best deal you can based on your value to the company.

You are so incompetent that you ask here what the compensation will be?
And you actually manage people and can determine who to fire?
Yet still offered a promotion?
This is why AT&T fails.

If you are really a L2 asking these questions on this board, you are perfect example of why AT&T is where it is. You should know some of this, but you don't. What do you to actually "manage"? What does AT&T get in return for your salary?

It’s more like a 5% pay bump, not 10% unless something changed.

I'm an L2 individual contributor who is also in line for a promotion. I've been told by two L3's, one a director and the other an individual contributor, that the annual stock grant is 40k worth of stock, vesting over three years as previously mentioned.

L3 falls under executive compensasion package. Complete different than everyone else. You have some options to take all or part of bonus in stock. Ask HR for copy of comp plan for all the details. Life does change.

Take the offer. Or you will probably never get another offer. You will be a junior good ole boy

Once thing I can say with certainty - if you are a L3, you have a huge target on your back come wacking time. So take the promotion, squirrel away the extra ca$h, and if they wack you later, just feel good you got rid of Toxic T and the Stink!

The reason the person is ask it that ATT does a poor job of telling new L3's about the stock incentives

L3 and L4 are just dime a dozen GM level positions. It would not surprise me if they collapse one of those levels.... Too many GM's (L3/L4) are doing nothing but collecting a pay check and not leading the organization. Must reduce layers to help the bottom line....

I would have stayed at the L2 position, much safer position. With AT&T being a much smaller company, less GM's and Senior Management HC will be needed.

I agree - you have to pass the bill to find out what’s in the bill

OP here

@1byt+1dw79xAQ - thank you!

@1svi+1dw79xAQ - why the negative post? This info isn’t really shared. I haven’t gotten my “official” offer yet and if you look at career intelligence all it shows it’s salary range + bonus. There’s no public info about L3+ stock plans until you actually get to L3. It’s held pretty tight.

I wish I could make that much but being the dummy I am I get very little base, bonus and nothing else. I am waiting around like the piece of dead wood I am until I get some severance and off to FLO-rida to live in a trailer with my mom

OP here. Thanks for the info.

So I’m looking at a 10% salary bump and 7% bonus bump?

How do the stock grants work? Do I get free stock, discounted stock, or something else? And what % of my salary?

Update to @1u‘s response, the L3 stock grants now vest 1/3rd per year over three years incrementally. It just changed this year. Also, they are no longer doing performance shares, in which the payouts were based on AT&T hitting ROIC targets, which is nice. The grants are paid out 1/2 cash and 1/2 stock.

L3s will typically get a 10% bump compared to the highest L2 in the same job category. L3 do not get stock options. They get annual stock grants that pay out three years later. The annual bonus % for an L3 is 19% compared to 12% for L2 and less for L1. L4 gets 26% bonus and higher stock grants.
