Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Hiring event in Atlanta

Does anybody know how this went? Did anybody show up? Or let me rephrase that, did anybody who could be considered a possible asset to the company show up?
I firmly believe that we're at the point where anybody who has a choice will pick anything rather than T.

Yes, I agree, 20 - 40 something's do have different expectations. Since they only plan to be here for 1 -5 years, they will expect a much higher TSR, with their salary at the top of TSR. The only other carrot T can possibly offer is unlimited vacation (paid of course), T's healthcare insurance is a joke. 401K match, while it holds up, if it holds up. No other benefits are worth the paper their printed on.

Why do you people think T or any other Fortune 100 company wants to hire you and have you stay on the payroll for more than 5+ years? That is just not reality in 2021. What planet have you been living on for the last decade? College new hires understand their employment will be 3-5 years, which is exactly the average tenure for companies today.
Regarding the culture and the reason T is supposedly more ‘toxic’ than other places….faulty assumptions and definitely not fact based ie. data. Employees leave companies like Facebook, Google or ATT for better opportunities, higher pay, better work/life balance….The core of today’s workforce 20-40 something employees have totally different expectations from employers, and far more leverage to obtain what they value. It is a new workplace.

So why are you still here? Maybe you realize T is the only employer who will pay you so well regardless of your limited education and skills. We’re sick of your whining ‘poor me’… Employers hire us for a contracted period of time whether you’re bargained for or non bargained. And at some point everyone of us will have our contract expired and non-renewed. It’s a job…. There are 100k+ employees still employed and many others will gladly rake your place. So.Go.

T is a rotten, toxic place to work. Expect pay and a couple weeks vacation, nothing more. Any benefits you are promised coming in will disappear into thin air. Know what you are signing on for, don't expect to stay past 3-5 years, T does not want tenured employees working for them.

T isn’t a bad place to work, so long as you manage your expectations. If you’re new coming in, you don’t know what it was like, so it’s not terrible. It’s a job, treat it as such and you’ll be happier. For so many of us we remember a better time and it was a career for us where our coworkers were like family and very close friends. We cared about the team and what we were doing. Then all the changes happened, the changes and turnovers kept happening and we became disillusioned. It’s because we care that we post here. But for someone coming in new, they don’t know any of that.

Toxic slew is what T has become in so many ways.

I honestly dont know why anyone stays, if you have been at T all your career just go out and google search your job title..start applying for jobs. You dont have to accept a job, but interview, see whats out there beyond this horrible company. I moved on-no reason to be overworked, underpaid and beyond woke.

Why would anyone want to work for a company that will pressure you in to quitting, moving on after five or so years! No future with T, just a stop over for transients at best! This company’s image will soon reflect that, a job nothing more! No careers offered in ATT, just short term jobs.

Anyone that has anything to offer will not choose to work at T. Way better choices with companies that treat employees with dignity and respect. T ain't it! T leadership = a bunch of indian givers! Take away benefits which they have no right to do. These chumps will be gone in 2 years.

You’re wrong. There are many excellent opportunities within T that offer competitive pay and multiple paths to career advancement. And it may shock you to know that lots of people are applying for those positions. Of course you must bring specific skill sets and education to the table as well as an understanding that the company is not looking for lifetime ‘workers’. Even if you’re preference is for a job to spend the next 30-40 years crawling in man holes or climbing poles or a multitude of other old school jobs, unfortunately, the days of lifetime hourly jobs has expired. No harm/no foul…that’s just the way it is.
Also not every employee at ATT is angry and bitter… we’ve figured out how to adjust and adapt in the global work environment.

I guess it's safe to say that college recruitment isn't going so well for T. This is where Stankey and Santone can visualize the mess they have made of T. The competitive job market goes to the winning companies. Companies that offer respectable benefit packages with an opportunity for decent/fair TSR pay with decent/fair bonus options. Regardless of what Santone claims, T has now lowered their total benefit package to the equivalent of a mom and pop shop.

Your dislike for the company is not universal, even in the company. Outsiders do not have the same exposure to you and your comrades toxic attitude. Sometimes I think you all self fulfill your spoken awful work lives.

So no the 'word' is not out and we are hiring in our area with good folks.
