Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

No more layoffs but also no hiring and PIPs continue

The layoffs are over but it will continue to be more and more challenging to be highly ranked. This means if you choose to stay your salary will likely stagnate and go down due to inflation.

@1wuf+1dodSnMe Sounds like attrition isn’t tracking historical norms after all. Nothing to see here folks. Nothing to see.

I have seen MANY interviewees on the Houston campus over the last couple of weeks. They’re pretty hard to miss - they’re always way overdressed compared to the rest of us, and they carry around their leather padfolios full of freshly printed resumes. I’ve wanted so badly to pull them aside and tell them to run, fast and far, away from XOM.

Oh, and I’m Downstream.

Agree. Recruiting is very delayed this year. We had new hires wrapped up by mid October back in 2018-2019. Any idea when college hiring ends this year?

Not sure what’s going on with upstream hiring. Initially we (recruiting teams) were told no targets for 2022 and to bring in sophomore interns for future hiring in 2024+. Then this week we get a rushed email from upstream recruiting advisor saying hey so whoops we actually do want to hire a few dozen ppl and do you have anyone for us? This is after all the campus recruiting was wrapped up. Like yeah let’s just go sift through all the rejects that weren’t already referred to downstream sites and send them to upstream. Can’t make this up. #winning

Downstream hiring. Upstream not hiring. OP is likely from upstream. Upstream needs people too but has been told to fill resignations with contractors. No new employee hiring in upstream.

New hires are just fodder for future pips

At Baytown we will be interviewing and hiring. We don’t need engineers, we need to replace the NSIs that took the PIL. Yes, we are lowering the standards so we can hire from TA&M and LSU. We are hiring future PIPs.

They announced cl levels will be raised at the sites. D-mbazzes we’re all fired up. Since they hire best and brightest I got to thinking. Wait a minute, so that allows Emre folks with higher cl’s an opportunity to come to the site and replace the mutts that have been keeping it running. Second thought. Higher cl is tougher to survive. So now it’s easier to pip the legacy higher paid engineers. I’ve never seen so many folks so excited about a grenade that was thrown into a bunch of engineers. I know I should be happy but at this point I really don’t trust anything here anymore. Especially when our boss is smiling in her sadistic black widow web.

@OP hasn't a clue about what is going on. Multiple on site interviews already happening in Joliet. A few people at site were PIP'd and immediately took the PIL, however no one that went through the PIP was let go/failed.

Anyone at Baytown hear of any on-site interviews yet? Rumors is that they are starting soon.

Dude, as long as the 8% pip/pil continues, the layoffs are not over

Agreed and more attrition in the que. Good luck with training all areas at once.

You may not be correct in the hiring part. Baton Rouge and Baytown complex are hiring quite a bit right now. Both entry level and experienced. With attrition out the roof, new engineers are needed asap.

I heard that the recruiting was limited to only a few campuses favored by senior management. Which campuses are we recruiting at?

Lots of recruiting but lowering the standards, recipe for long term success. Not….

OP is full of sh-t on the post title. Campus hiring for 2022 is quite high, approaching 2018-2019 levels overall. Obviously targets vary by company. GP and EMRE targets are still low. Chem and FL are much higher. Source: am recruiter at one of the tier 1 schools where in person recruiting happened. We were asked to refer roughly double what we normally would. Also worth mentioning that guidance for refining/Chem candidates was to loosen up on the GPA requirements. Apparently the 4.0’s don’t want to stay in Beaumont long term.
