If AT&T did that, they would lower the salary of the most productive workers to give to those who don't even deserve to be making $70,000.
IT pay is on the low end for most employees at T. Been that way for years. Hard to compete with more successful companies when you can't pay your workforce competitive salaries, especially in CA. Probably why many technical titles got a pay bump in August. Sadly most IT folks are still at the bottom of their TSR -- even with the increase.
I can't speak for compensation on other teams. Kudos to this CEO lowering his salary -- he's still rich and still seems to be happy.
Pay is not an issue for T. In fact, some folks are over paid and need pay cuts based on their performance.
