Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Positions that are less and less needed here?

That is, the ones that are least safe here. Which positions are those? Thoughts?

Whoever wrote that USB didn't ride the wave of offshoring after Y2K was not there. They had a huge call center in India and outsourced 90% of desktop technology services. After a few years they realized that customers were outraged and users were not getting the one-on-one services they needed. At that time many departments had proprietary software loaded on the PCs that were business critical and the contracted companies were not able to load them or assist with problems. In the end, they closed the Indian call center and went back to in-house ISP resources. BUT the management that experienced all that have retired and replaced by MBA's who went to college when that was the way to go. Agile? Are you kidding? In order for Agile to work in a large corporate setting, it must be built from the start. Getting technical people to work together after building careers in a dog-eat-dog competitive environment is impossible. If USB wanted Agile to work, they would have had to create an independent division for software development to replace the existing structure. Instead, they tried to get buy-in from people entrenched in the old Release mentality. What a joke! Those people dug in their heels and those who were left after 4 or 5 years of reorgs begrudgingly went through the motions of Agile. Some escaped through retirement or "elimination" but those remaining are sitting on their hands, just waiting for the inevitable data crisis that puts things back in what they deem, right order. Upper management is ignoring all of the bugs and data degradation because they think everything will eventually settle. I won't make any predictions because I'm (gratefully) out of that cesspool of quicksand.

USB is about 20 years behind every other US based company. Most companies moved to offshore technology resources during Y2K. During this time or slightly after, companies became Agile. USB just discovered both and are now, all in on both. The leadership for technology at USB has never been accused of being bright or having any ability to lead.
