Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATT dysfunction

Every time I read these posts, there's always massive back and forth about layoffs. Then someone comments re: the 'dead weight' and layoffs are justified. Here's the reality-
Come next year staffing will look drastically different (ie- reduced) in many areas largely because of employees taking retirement due to loss of HC stipend. T would be justified and needs to update to face the new market/ labor reality. But the problem is this will require a radical rethink and adoption of new processes by Senior Mgmt of items such as SDN (software defined networking), cloud, and other innovations adopted by T's competitors (Amazon for example). While these items get a lot of lip service, there's simply no way T adopts these new processes and updated business models quick enough to fill the gap. And I'm not even getting into the mountains of cash which were burned/ wasted on 'entertainment'- DTV and WM.

Randall is a product of nepotism, his brother got him in the company and he married a relative of Whitacre!

Follow the money. Stank isn’t going rouge…. He’s gotta do what the board tells him to do. Otherwise Stinkeys family members won’t be able to serve on other boards as well. The a s s h o l e s all have spouses, kids or extended family members who serve on each other’s boards and get paid. That’s just the part time for them. The real money comes from their d-mb decisions that make a whopping 2 cents on the dollar or whatever. Bottom line is not the customer, how much they can conjure up and take before they fudge up a company and it goes belly up

A monkey would have made a better CEO. If T simply coasted as a Telecom company they would have been in the same position with Billions less debt. Should have kept their investments in Hulu and other companies instead of trying to be Hulu.

The problem with T imho is that management likes to think we are a retail company or a tech company. The reality is, we are a service company. That being said, we should be focused on top notch service and customer service. That’s how you win. We can’t special offer our way out of subscriber losses. Easier to keep a customer than it is to get a new one. Take care of your customers and others will come. Just my humble opinion.

The main problem with ATT is that there is so much nepotism in this company as well as cronyism in the good ole boys club that it will always lead from behind! This culture has been part of T forever! Doesn’t matter the qualifications or lack thereof, it’s who you know or if your Mother, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather worked for T in the past. Then and only then will you move up in management. It’s an old company with a lot of history and that’s the way it is, won’t change not in our life times!

Let's be honest. Businesses wouldn't but anything from ATT if it weren't for kickbacks and bribes. Remember that time Randall took full responsibility for bribing Trump's lawyer? By firing our lobbyist in DC! Our ethics are laughable, even more so than our lack of competence. B

VPs and above are safe dead weight. Many are embedded with senior mgt. On top of the salary and benefits VPs get a $30k perk of free car and free car insurance. Most will fire as many people as needed to hold on to that benefit!!

Culture here is highly hierarchical from 19th century. Won’t work for a tech company.

It also reminds me almost everything T implements, is implemented incorrectly. The justification typically is because 'it's the ATT way and we know better than our competitors'. Case in point. HVD. HVD was going to replace everyone's desktops/ notebooks. But after they got deep into it realized it was not implemented correctly and it would take a complete redo to fix it. Here it sits, largely unadopted except for some fringe cases.

att is mismanaged cesspool. wanted to do sdn and get involved with it at att and I am totally qualified but I never could get into a group that was involved in it. but now I am doing it for a competitor and enjoying the heck out of it.
I knew people who are doing it at att that are not qualified and they wonder why so much crud gets outsourced. it is no surprise they outsource their cloud stuff because I know for a fact people doing are not qualified. I have no clue how these people get the jobs but it is a major problem at the cesspool.

the management is the problem from senior management on down. so glad I am out of the cesspool and I hope anyone thinking of working there thinking they will be doing cutting edge stuff run run run run far away and do not look back.
