Is anyone aware of what is going to happen with the DirecTV discount for ATT employees starting Jan 1? will our service just cease or will we be slammed with the regular price?

I’ve seen no emails. However, the active employee discount summary on HROneStop was updated in November. Previously it said we would receive the discount “through the end of 2021.” It now says that the discount will continue “until further notice.” Slide 3 in the pdf file under the Video section.

Where's that email? Even AT&T email can't be that slow to distribute. Cover up then spring it when it is too late to avoid a cycle with full price billing?

- wireless discount will be cut from 50% to 25%
- grandfathered employees will lose their complimentary DTV programming early next year
- tenured employees will get hit hard on their benefits if their years of service + age is >/= 75
- board voted to cut the stock dividend sometime in 2022, could be 40-45% less

Anybody see an announcement email on the discount for video? They may not do one and we all get hit unexpectedly

In our staff meeting, HR told us that they were initially considering not notifying employees of the discount being eliminated. That is how underhanded this company has become!! They would just slam everyone on Jan 1 with full price unexpectedly . . . Nice! :(

Have DTV stream at the house, no one knows what it is. That is how often it's being used. If the price goes up, count me in for a cancel. Pretty sure I'm not the only one. No more loyalty, I'm with Stank, what have you done for me lately??

Whatever you do DON'T call DTV customer service.... it's non-existent. Not an AT&T employee but I was a loyal cell phone customer, that is until I was talked into DTV. Once I finally got that stopped (and believe me it was a struggle) after my contract ended I then switched my cell phone service to T-Mobile. Will never buy an AT&T service again. Problem is, management is aware of how bad that service is/was and does nothing about it.
The only issue with not having the satellite version of DTV is the out of market RSNs. I get those now, and so I can watch my favorite teams. Streaming is tough because I also have fixed wireless broadband for at least 18 mos - 2 years until the fiber expansion to my area is complete. Rural folks are always screwed.
Would anyone opt in? some will. streaming is not a good option for me, I only have fixed wireless broadband and its not all that broad much of the time.
I’ll keep a basic package if the discount is canceled, but not planning on the whole thing. I mainly just watch locals and a few select channels. We mainly stream shows on Netflix and prime. I don’t really see a need to keep the whole service.

OP here. I dug deep in some search on Insider or something and found some answers. Apparently on 11-30 impacted ATT employees are going to get a notification and request to opt in or out to ongoing service. They allow for this decision thru Jan 14. Beginning Jan 23 thru Feb 22 depending on billing cycle date directv market prices increase. Feb 1 anyone who has elected to opt out is disconnected and those to opt in convert to something described as new discount pricing.
once the nfl package exits after this year...this piece of junk product is DOA.
Did employees commit to keeping it one year?
I will not keep DTV if/when we lose the discount. It’s not worth it to me. Same with all my other AT&T services. If I’m going to pay full price I’ll go with somebody who at least acts like they care about their customers. T has proven time and time again that the old Lily Tomlin skit is absolutely the truth. We don’t care we don’t have to, we are the phone company.
Of course Stinky's Toxic T will provide no notice of discount cancelation! Maximum chaos! And they will make it extremely difficult to cancel!
New DTV owners will get a few bucks till thousands of T employees are finally able to ditch DTV.
At retirement, I lost my discount, HBO, and NFL ticket. Didn't care for the football thing with all that's going on there, so no big deal. My last DTV bill before I cancelled was $147.00. So buckle up!
Ya'll might want to look at streaming options. Much cheaper. You tube TV, Directv Streaming, Hulu+, individual networks, like ESPN, Paramount+, Disney.
If you decide to cancel mid-billing cycle, remember you will still be billed for the entire billing period. No pro-rating allowed. Ask me how I know!
In true T fashion, the discount will be removed without advance warning and employees will pay full price for a billing cycle or two. Just like our customers have contract discounts removed when they expire. #ByeByeDTV
I've heard that our plan will be reduced to the basic minimum service, no NFL package or HBO, but there will still be a discount on the rate.
