@1feb, the only thing less profitable than rural fiber is rural copper. We could have hand dug fiber with a teaspoon all across America cheaper than the never ending frog, pair change, & bypass wire plan we’ve had in play now for the last +20 years keeping these SLCs, Pots, & Specials up and running.

I wish I had a quarter for every time I was told, “the days of severance packages are over.” Just when you believe it will never happen again, the company comes out of nowhere and it’s on the table! Seen it happen in 2017 with bargained for employees! Never say Never!

I believe with this cash infusion, T will be more likely to offer more early retirement packages to both management and bargained for employees if it doesn’t make the numbers at year end. T wants lifers off its payroll to stem the pension contributions for legacy employees.

And yet half the country supports bills passed to cut corporate taxes, while eliminating tax write offs for homeowners. What happened to the jobs that were supposed to be created when the former administration handed T and others the gift of less taxes?
But half the country looks at childcare
credits and infrastructure job opportunities as ‘welfare’. Crazy… There is something very wrong with this country and those who consistently vote for people who have no interest in their well being. Americans have fallen way behind other developed nations in so many ways. It’s really embarrassing.

If AT&T upgrades their network with government loot it’s to eliminate jobs not add more. Just like they went from CO’s with dozens of techs to roving techs due to new technology. They’re in business to make money not provide jobs.

Great news about T getting a lifeline and a bunch of cash! Hopefully that will keep layoff numbers low going into the next few years, and I can keep my job.

Money to build out totally unprofitable broadband to the rural America. Just like years ago when they were paid to get dial tone to those areas.

The BBB money should go to Tmobile and Verizon to fund wireless holder internet. They've proven that they can build a solid network. AT&T would use it on something odd, like rebuilding Digital Life.

Investments to build a better network for consumers. High paying jobs for AT&T workers. Doesn't get much better than that.

All that money won't change the toxic culture T has created in its work force. Lots of resentment and bitterness from Legacy T personnel! Not until all these employees leave T will this sentiment change. T created a very hostile work environment and its brand will suffer as a result!

Lots of power companies are getting fed $$ to place fiber…might as well give equally.

Major telcom firms shouldn’t receive a dime of federal support.

Hopefully all the money T receives will go toward reducing their massive debt. Otherwise it will be used to reward T leadership for continued failures!
