I totally agree with the person who wrote that one should not have false hopes of security because no one is safe here. Truth be told, they can tell anyone tomorrow that they are not needed. However, I still think that IT is one of the more secure areas in this company.

That’s true about Business Services still hiring without the work load ever coming to fruition. Keep being told it’s going to get busy and that was over a year ago. It’s only gotten slower, less work and more techs to do it. Funny how that works...?
It would be great if T layoffs were “systematic layoffs” rather than “forced layoffs.” It seems as though the thoughtless and heartless T doesn’t care that people still want or need to work at T and go ahead and lay them off anyway. That means those impacted people that have given their all for T for many years are leaving angry and bitter rather than proud and accomplished! It would bode well for the company as well as the employees if they offered every employee the opportunity to leave. This would save careers as well as allow those that want to leave, the opportunity to move on with dignity!
AT&T has a whole business group of employees with various levels of security clearances that do work for the DoD and other Intelligence Community agencies. You really can’t outsource work the requires security clearances, so I’d say those employees are probably some of the “safest” in the company.
I've been in IT for a decent portion of my T career. It's not safe. There are surpluses every couple of years or so. There is outsourcing (see ATT Cloud failure) on a mass scale. No safety.

ABFS is totally safe the is hiring. No layoffs in sight!

Are you talking about the I.T. department that is already contracted out, these people are already non-employees.
Those people whose ONLY solution to ANY problem is to wipe your hard drive and re-install from scratch, not actually fixing anything but destroying all the data on the computer..
That OP must, MUST be joking.
I agree with the other post that said H.R. people will be the last employees standing, they have to be around to do all the layoff paperwork on everyone else.......

It can be contracted out.
IT jobs have been siloed then offshored. Why do you think they are safe?
There is only one safe "area" in the company.
It is the department that has absolutely no interest in sales or installation, or repair, or engineering or finance or providing any type of customer service at all.
It is the only area of the company that has absolutely no customer contact, no involvement with providing any services at all.
Zero involvement with franchise, or right of way, or media, wireless or wireline.
Nothing to do with product developement or any projects or any work that this compay relies on.
No thinking required at all, they have no product, no improvement, no skills at all, ZERO brains or thought required...
This department will be the last department left and the one that will never benefit our product or customers in any way.
The ONLY "area" of this company that is completely safe is .......... HR
The only position that is "safe" is the Stinks - he can be the most incompetent B O O B on the planet and get millions of $ in bonuses for his great work.

sales, any other job can be done by someone cheaper and 3rd party.
Only positions in India and Malaysia should be considered somewhat safe.
ATT Business Field Services is still hiring technicians even though they're not needed at this time. Orders are at an all-time low, sales aren't being made, consequently the work isn't there. Then why are they still hiring? I believe there's a business unit on the sales block. Installation activity is sliw and expected to be such until mid-year, 2022 with no headcoynt reduction in site. Very perplexing!!!
Every company has the same issues. There are NO “safe” positions

Wireless and Fiber…unless they decide to sell them off. The further you get away from the real work the less you are needed when push comes to shove. We have too many paper pushers and not enough skilled workers in mgt and craft.
Mobility and fiber, period.
Business services. Less work more people. No surpluses.
