SJV Reorg

Any news on the upcoming SJV reorg? Sounds like it’s going to get ugly…

The sad situation is that if SJVBU can't be sold off (and soon!), it instead will be slowly whittled away to nothing. It's marginal economics and PR bad news (especially in California). Fracing and steam flooding are just a Newsome stroke of the pen away from being banned, which would shut down the BU entirely. Telltale sign is that none of the high-flying future EVPs have been rotated through there in the last six years. Now that Indonesia is gone and Venezuela remains nationalized, there is no future in heavy oil.

@3xwm, yes, most of the people leaving are leaving the company. It's ironic that in better times, SJVBU refused to accept Horizons participants as part of their rotational training (back when that happened), claiming the BU was "too busy" to train people. Now, the BU is fighting for survival.

Historically SJV has not allowed worker bees to transfer out of the BU. It is almost impossible.

The smart people I know in SJVBU have either jumped ship or transferred to MCBU. The handwriting is on the wall - get out of there before you get laid off and have no marketability.

SJVBU has marginal returns (when oil prices are high) in a very unfriendly state. As they say, 'cut your losses'.

I heard that some of the land leaders are headed to MCBU.

I saw a draft presentation that showed 45% employee reduction.

MW is obsessed with layoffs. Thats all he knows how to do and won't cut his massive salary thats the biggest overhead of all at the company.

Typical Chevron leaders with no imagination or ideas for growing a business like to cut costs. It is the easiest thing to do and has immediate bottom line results. "Look boss - I saved all this money and turned our business around!". Bosses lap it up.

Rough last decade. 1700 employees at peak during GL time, AW took it down to 900 (needed). BL didn’t do much to headcount. ML will take down to min run mode.

As you know, it was clearly stated that it is not a Re-Org! It is a “Integration”….(new phrase for re-org) but definitely not a re-org!

Supervisor told the team about it this week. It’s still early, but there’s more info yet to come

No news, probably won't happen. Management stated earlier that it had put a pause to it.
