A manager told me Samborn wants 25 % cut but layoff will be determined by how many leave due to drop in lump sum next year. If they were going to close down our little group, wish they would announce it 12/15. A few coworkers think they will be able to find new jobs next year within AT&T, even though we have been told by Sheiber that they are not back filling.

I keep hearing 20% reduction during the first quarter of next year. Don't know if this includes the techs retiring b4 the end of the year.

I should tell you about it rumor I heard before I find out it's not true. You will be advised by the company on the 10th day of Christmas that you will be laid off and your final paycheck shall be withheld to cover costs associated with your dismissal and you have no recourse or grievance and your complaints will not be heard. The company will purge all records related to you and forever deny your existence as an employee. Nobody gives a flying f**k about you or your feelings nor all your years of work. You have already been forgotten and Nobody cares. Just go away and...

UVerse was not a failure, the tv part was simply abandoned by Microsoft, and the leadership liked DTV for its profit margin. People still love it even now that we have raised the price to unimaginable levels. Good luck steering anyone away from fiber, it’s one of the few services we do well, and it is rock solid.

I'm been retired from old T for many years. The company's research and manufacturing might was destroyed by Carly Fiorina and Pat Russo, underlings of id--t Bob Allen. Blood letting began in earnest in the '90s to cover up Allen's sc--w ups, lIke NCR, and before that, the Olivetti PC disaster, costing billions upon billions that had to be supported by operating revenues. To squeeze more profit from that, 140,000 layoffs happened. Service declined, customers wandered away, and what was left was a smoking hulk gobbled up by the former Southwest Bell Telephone Co., SBC.

I see that stanky Mr. Hankey is carrying on the Bob Allen tradition of stupid acquisitions (Discovery), failed services (U-Verse), and punishing employees for management screwups. Oh, and Dandy Randall was no genius, either.

Thanks for cutting off my health care, dipsh*t. I'll happily work hard to steer that fiber deal away from All Texans & Tools to another entity for you.

I am a former employee and got laid off in July 2020. I was asked back to work, as a contractor, and came back to work in March 2021. I was again laid off as of last Friday. So I think the contractors might leaving as we get closer to the "quiet period" where there is very little network activity. A friend called me (a FTE employee) and said they were worried that they would be next. AT&T used to be a prestige company and now it's a "You're Next!" mentality. Who could ever feel good in an environment like that? Best of luck to all of you!

Projects are on hold due to funding constraints. Read you get a free iPhone, you get a free iPhone of wait we had to pay upfront for all that inventory and now the company is strapped for cash. I was asked to provide a 30 second elevator pitch as if I were delivering it to the CEO. That alone made me laugh as no AT&T VP or above or even below for that matter has ever responded with a simple hello. They all think that they are higher than thou. Terribly managed from the top down so yes layoffs are in the works. Once they get through contractors they will come for the rest of us. At least this strange and very obvious exercise I was put through has me preparing for whatever outcome lies ahead.

There are always layoffs at AT&T. That's how they (try) to hit their numbers. They have no idea how to actually drive organic growth. Didn't they hire a new Chief Revenue Officer to do that? Doesn't seem to be working. Terribly run and slowly dying company.

Doesn’t make sense about tech layoffs in the SE being announced on Friday. The SE was affected during the last cut and they don’t have thousands to lose. So, this is a false rumor as usual!

I heard a senior level manager slipped up and said that there is talk of early termination package being offered to technicians 55 years of age and older as long as you have at least 30 years of service. Any truth to this or is it a rumor like everything else we read on this blog?

Why has ATT decided to force non vaccinated employees back to the office who had HR approved job accommodations to work from home ? This decision is right after suspending employees that weren't vaccinated for months until they got vaccinated. ATT Leadership agenda is create conflict between non vaccinated and vaccinated employees and risk employees lives and families since COVID is still ki----g thousands everyday and force employees to quit or risk COVID and die. What am I missing?

They surplus 300 new techs that were hired for fiber build .. union got there dues worth 61,344 from signing them up for one year .. monthly dues for 12 months for 300 tech comes roughly out to 300,000 thousand that’s a guess could be more .. Both company and union in BED TOGETHER…

Working at a small telecom after a 43 year career at ATT. Managing contract fiber splicers for the RDOF project. I surprised at the quality of the fiber splicing by the contractors and production pay makes the workers self motivated. The more you splice the more you make. I definitely see ATT saving a ton of money going contract fiber, placement and splicing. Keeping perhaps a small in house fiber crew long term.

Ever town hall leadership speaks about the seasoned experienced employees they claim they care so much about leaving yet, never speak a word of how they are preparing the company for the future. Why? Because the dirty secret is the company is hiring non employees world wide at less pay and no benefits. Sad, our "leadership" can't speak the truth as they request from employees.

That might be true, but all the new hires I’m seeing in my group are T employees from other T business units. No signs of temp employees for new hires. T is staying true to its commitment...niiiiiiice!

People, T offers far more services than its competitors, therefore, it needs more employees. It offers ATT WiFi service, managed internet service, Office-at-Hand, (VoIP), Business in a box and Business fiber highspeed service. It could easily outsource this install work, but the company made a deal union to keep the work in-house and hire techs to do this work. T could use techs if anyone is interested and qualified...

ATT has too many employees compared to verizon. Something has to occur. Verizon outsourced IT, Stanky will force Legg to do that. Splitting the company again (fiber/copper and wireless), would be the death to the fiber side - it would be a dog stock. Its looking like the mass retirement will not be as big as everyone thinks. 3 so far under our AVP (we're in IT).

How many wasted w#nkers do you need at $40+ hour? Not as many as you believe.
Sub contract out and earn a profit. We don't need the debt of a chronically unskilled union workforce with their ever increasing pension and healthcare burdens.

Wrong. AT&T will take the money and then NOT build the fiber.

T will slowly start shifting the fiber build to contracted services once they receive federal money.

Unlikely we'll see anything forced until they can get an idea of how much damage is done by management leaving by Dec 31st. I know of at least four in my immediate organization that will be leaving, but those are just the ones who will openly state it.

At least 10-20 temp employees ( union ) are being hired under two year contracts to " help " with the projects on the current horizon. ( Pointless as there is no way on Earth they'll possibly meet those timelines. )

The problem the company will soon realize is that right about the time these techs can work independently without assistance, their contracts will be up and the cycle will start again.

ABFS still hiring technicians as well as managers to supervise very minimal work load. It's the org to be in or get into if you want job security with growth potential.

Come'on Man - the Stink will not offer a dime to get rid of any US based employees now that he figured out how to get rid of them for free. No MVO will be offered. No layoffs that require a severance will be paid out. He will just continue rebadging and figuring out new mandates to get folks fired at no cost so he can collect tens of millions in bonuses.

Voluntary offers will come first and second quarters of 2022 for all non technician jobs for AT&T.
AT&T will spinoff legacy telco once federal funding is secured, with the infrustructure bill, to build out fiber.
AT&T will cease hiring permanent technicians and will focus on having its work force be 50% term technicians by 2025.

Layoffs are coming, but the specific final numbers of retirees by EOY will have to be determined to know how deep they will go.
