Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

1st line Info Sec Managers a joke with walking clown shoes

I've reached my last straw. First line Information Security management is a joke. Many second line "leaders" are equally bad. The majority of these so called "leaders" are not technical, do NOT understand their product team, nor have real Information Security experience. Almost none have their CISSP. Most of these phony leaders provide reasons to avoid work rather than finding ways to accomplish work. Some are working on their AWS CP in 2021 and many have failed multiple certifications. What a joke. A basic AWS cloud certification in 2021?!

I can no longer take first line management coasting when there are more qualified, educated, technical, and competent analysts on the sideline. Not to mention the many lies.

With the help of my experience, and the tens of thousands of dollars in certifications I earned on the companies dime, I'm constantly contacted for full remote jobs. I'm going through the interview process with a major Cloud Service Provider for a Senior Information Security position with compensation negotiable between 200-300k. I plan to stick around long enough to get my bonus then I'll take a better opportunity.

The grass is greener for talented Information Security professionals.

It's not just Info Sec areas unfortunately. ET/digital and systems and other areas.

I’m looking at Information Security positions outside of State Farm. What I’m finding is State Farm is not competitive with pay. These are benefits packages of over 200k with full remote positions for analyst jobs.

I agree. I’ve had a positive experience with few managers in information security which are oddly enough the younger managers. The majority have no understanding of Security and moved over from some software developer position or made a manger from a governance job.

It’s odd the Directors and Executives in Information Security don’t want to improve their own livelihood and what’s best for State Farm by giving some of these younger more technical kids a shot that can communicate, lead, and understand technical topics.

I’m contacted by many full remote companies for first line leadership positions with higher pay. I intend to leave after I receive my bonus next year.

Totally agree. Almost every single director and manager and LDA I've had has no idea the tech and business landscape and consequences or how it even works. They get a project done and get a big raise and promotion. Manager positions or those that for the /puppet/ role are promoted.

It's so odd really
