Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Market is hot

I managed to find a new job not long after I started searching and it is better paid as well. It took about a dozen applications in my case. After giving notice, it’s harder for me to work here now than ever to finish up these last few days. I can't wait for the last day.

By the way, is it possible that there are those who are failing to find a new job in such a hot market? I'm just wondering who are the people who are failing to get a new offer now?

got three offers the first three resumes I sent out the trouble was deciding which one to pick. they all interviewed three times and gave me offered all the same week.

at my second place since I left the att cesspool and both these companies I would go back to work for but no way in he-l I would go back and work for att. they way they treat their experience employees is nothing short of criminal. they just sell them off like livestock to ibm, accenture or whoever is the flavor of the day for outsourcing.

att is a cesspool and hope people run far away if they are thinking of working there. won't ever buy anything from att again.

It took several dozen applications and a few interviews, but I found a much better job with a starting salary higher than I was making at this sewer. This is a red hot job seeker's market right now. If you have talent and ambition (which many at at&t don't) there is no reason to stay.

My advice, do what you say you will do. Don’t sc--w over your teammates, even if you didn’t like them. Never know when you’ll run into them again. Yes it can be hard to find another gig depending on your level. The more experience, the higher the level and comp expectations, the harder it is. That being said, there are a lot of jobs and opportunities out there right now. Be a free agent and shop around.

Started shopping around once T announced the vaxxx mandate.

Plenty of work out there, but everything else was at least 20k less.

So, I'm sticking around until they fire me.

I hope you don't get sick and miss your last days at T. Must work last day before exit to turn in badge & equipment. T has had an impact on your life and I am sure you feel you owe T and the stockholders those last days. Sick days do not get paid out as with other companies. Be a loyal employee until the end (of your life) and remember your first bill for T products will not include concessions. But, will charge for all the extra features given free. Landline costs could increase $160. T will take your last dime and work you 10-12 hours a day until you leave.

To be honest, you have to give AT&T leadership a little credit for their decision to cut retiree medical benefits. This policy is driving many senior employees who haven’t kept up with current technology to leave. These have been highly overpaid workers who have long coasted and no longer benefit the company. If still wanting to work, there are great opportunities out there for those with marketable skills. If not wanting to lose longer periods of earned vacation, this is easily negotiated with a new company.

People failing to get jobs = no marketable skills.
Att had some organizations structured in such a way that people had ridiculously simple jobs. You have to provide evidence to prospective employers that you have experience or knowledge in skills worth paying a decent price for.

I am not OP.

Retention bonus is real. Discussed my intention to leave job and was offered 20% raise with better title and retention bonus.

A long tenure with T is not valued on a resume. T’s reputation is pretty well known in the industry.

I work under Brickhaus. My group supports a large/complex and in the industry widely used 'application'.

Sadly, probably put it in nearly 300 applications, no job offers, and very little interest.

I'm guessing, bad time to be a White, 50's, straight, non-veteran, non-degreed, male.

Not everyone is a cybersecurity expert or have Cisco certs. Generic PM or management skillsets are a dime a dozen nowadays and don’t get you very far.
