I am joining Chevron and they aren't still starting me till August next year? may change due to business needs.
Does anyone know why they do that? I really want to start working earlier, since I am in need of the income

So there is a cut off date in August for getting ranked for that year which also may play in to your bonus. Hope that helps.

I talked to them about it and they have decided to start me in the date I wanted to start. (Super early next year)
Should I still go for it? I’ve accepted so it’s kind of too late to back out. I thought it would be great for my career coming out of college.
Find another job they are stringing you along. Keep the offer letter in the back pocket and go make money somewhere else. If they treat you like this while trying to get you started it is only going to get worse
In the good 'ol days if you were hired by Chevron, you started as soon as you could, on your schedule. If Chevron is putting you off 'for a few months', that means they're hedging their decision to hire you. Unfortunately, you may end up getting one of those 'due to business conditions we have to rescind out employment offer' letters. Not a fantasy, this has happened during downturns or periods of uncertainty. It's best if you press them for a specific start date.
Was this a web site where you paid them to find you work? Did you ever have a job interview on site at a Chevron facility? Unlikely HR gave you an offer letter for over 6 months out unless you are a university student! Consider it might be a scam! Good luck!

Yes ask to start in Jan or ask to start right now. Why can’t you start in Dec. the person your talking to makes it sound like their is an “hiring day” guess what every day at chevron is a Hiring / Firing day. They can onboard and off board anyone anytime.

Who let me know, they try to start everyone at the same time so they can intro everyone together and also depends on the business needs. Since you guys are most likely chevron employees, what's the outlook?

I just feel like thats too far its less than a year but still, its far out. The other jobs in my area are more of the B4, which I don't really want to do since i interned there and didn't like the crazy amount of hours.

Wow.. I don't even want to start anymore, and that sounds like the truth also..
Even though I haven't started, I already feel like I will get laid off within one year of starting or not even be able to start. It sucks if this happens because I don't have a backup offer or job.
to see what oil prices will look like, if things go downhill expect to be ghosted.
