Vacationing-out restrictions in Claims

Is Claims the only Department that restricts your PTO to vacation out to 6 weeks? I am aware of several other departments that have allowed whatever amount of vacation time you have. I know the alternative is just to take the payoff and pay the excessive tax. Has anyone ever challenged this restriction? What were you told?

I agree with having it equal across all departments. Just hope they don't make it 90 days for all.

The policy is definitely not being administered fairly. Recently left. Had to fight to get 60 days of nearly 5.5 months of PTO. Clearly management was just making up excuses. Started with an offer of 30 days. Negotiated 60. Kept my communications with management. Let me know when suit is filed.

Remember! You are in the drivers seat. Be smart! Beat them at their own game and in their own ball park. Hint: Live within your means!

Wow surprised they can’t even meet in the middle of part time work, mixed in with PTO since we are short staffed. A guy that retired near me must have went through the same thing you did. He told me on his last day to save the PTO you’ll need life’s too short.

The alternative is to go out on whatever mental or physical impairment is causing you to be unable to do your work. Take your STD and your LTD. Now you stretched it out another 6 months. Retire on April 1st so you get your full bonus and the cash out of your PTO does not ki-l you on taxes.

Depends on the claim segment. Injury seems to not allow it as much as Complex Property. Not sure what PIP/MPC is doing but I would print all of the exec announcements showing how their last day in the office is 6 mo before their official retirement. Make a stink and I bet it gets changed to be uniform across departments and job levels.

Look at the retiree announcements for Claims and print them off to help your case. This is on the SFnet under Claims.

I worked in Claims and when I retired I had to get Section Mgr approval - I asked for 6 months but they only let me have 90 days then the rest was payout. Good luck.

That must be a recent change. I know I had to get management approval but was allowed to use approx. 5 months of vacation and then retire earlier this year. I was in claims. I had a friend that did the same.
