News article about Delta Airlines and Covid vaccine health insurance surcharge

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2021/08/25/delta-air-lines-covid-vaccine-surcharge-health-care-insurance/5585217001/

With the recent Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine FDA approval Delta Airlines is enacting a $200 a MONTH health insurance surcharge for employees that are not vaccinated by Nov 1. What are the odds Honeywell will also consider this?

"Data from May showed nearly all U.S. deaths from the virus were among people who haven’t received the vaccine, AP reporting found. About 99.5% of all deaths from COVID-19 are in the unvaccinated, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has said.

With surcharge, Honeywell will not have to pay for your health insurance. Record profits and another divided paid out. Stock price goes up!

Bigger bonuses and someone gets promotion. The future is it is yours.

Looks like the mods are on a fu----g roll on these covid threads. Please charge us more for healthcare so we have another reason to leave. $500/paycheck is already not competitive. Please increase it further so you can no longer attract new hires either. I dare you.

Obese folks and smokers do pay more.

And the great majority of hospitalizations are unvaccinated.

@tny+1cvgUggv: Cancer isn't a choice. To be vaccinated or not is. Why should the company incur medical costs associated with your poor choices? Yeah, maybe obese people should pay more too.

All I can say is that this thread must be attracting anti-vaxxers who aren't now and have never been HON employees.

I can't believe there are that many anti-vaxxers associated with an engineering company. There just can't be that many low IQ paranoid people working for HON.

I can imagine a scumbag company like Honeywell who is run by crooks doing this. They already take your BMI every year and purposely mismeasure to overestimate it, thus inflicting the surcharge among the greatest proportion of their employees. That is called FRAUD (which im sure is what they also do with their financials) and another way Honeywell uses its own employees money to fund their business.

The pickle here is that insurance companies cannot ask for proof of vaccine (or if proof is submitted, they cannot verify and deny). Similar to fine for smoking, this is self reported. When you visit your doctor though you should always say you have been vaccinated and have never smoked

Delta airlines CEO. “The average hospital stay for employees with covid-19 costs the airline $50,000 per person”

Posted below. Unvaccinated individuals who contract covid-19 are approximately 29 times more likely to require hospitalization.

@tny.

Go review job posting benefits. Many employers today only pay for health insurance for the employee. The spouse and the children cost extra. I’m not saying I agree with this philosophy.

There is a difference between those who may be genetically at risk for health care costs (cancer for example) and health care costs due to lifestyle choices.

Honeywell won’t follow pseudoscience posted on Facebook and Instagram when making decisions regarding health care insurance and cost. Bottom line. Real science today. One is approximately 29 times more likely to require hospitalization if you contract covid and are unvaccinated.

@lqn+1cvgUggv I understand your points so saying that now are they going to charge more to employees who family may have dr-g problems, alcohol, cancer, well any health issues that can run in the family and have them pay more for their premium over and above current rates. Oh how about we max out how many kids they can have so we dont pay that too. Where does it end.

Honeywell is self insured regarding healthcare cost which they have the benefit program administered by a third party like Anthem, BlueCross, etc.. Therefore all actual health cost come off the bottom line. Covid healthcare cost, just like older workers healthcare cost impacts the bottom line in a major way. It would not surprise me to see unvaccinated employees and their families members to pay a premium over and above current rates.

If you’ve had Covid, then your antibodies are better than the jab, which are already disappearing (thus the need for boosters). COVID recovery patents show antibodies several months later. If you can prove you had it, then they should not impose this.

Here are some points to ponder. If companies going to mandate the shot and say you get sick from it and need time off from the job will company not let you use sick time since they said you need the shot or guess it will go under STD so you get paid correctly again since they want you to have shot? OK worse case yes probably rare cases you end up in the Hospital do to the shot is company going to cover all your medical bills or any bills created by it. And last thing what if you end up passing away from it they going help families out? Some scary stuff think about.

This is why we haven't hear anything yet about healthcare cost for next year. They have been waiting for the government to approve the vaccine. Healthcare premiums will now jump 200-300 a month, but you will get a "discount" if you "choose" to self identify as being vaccinated. Count on it.

Honeywell employees who smoke pay more for health insurance. Employees who’s personal freedoms increase health care costs should pay more for health insurance.

@rao, love your suggestion of $10k deductible for COVID-19 related illnesses. If COVID-19 is truly a hoax, then no one will need to pay. If the vaccines actually work and prevent or lessen the affects of covid then those people will save some money. No one will lose.

Awesome move. Makes a lot of sense. Health insurance companies should impose a $10,000 deductible for covid medical costs for those unvaccinated.
Time to stop the nonsense and get vaccinated. This isn't a game and no, it isn't about personal freedom. It's about snuffing out a deadly plague. It is a public health crisis, not a personal health crisis.
