Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

A working parent… will I have to quit bc of Delta

Has anyone heard of accommodations WF or any company has to retain parent employment. The conversation of me taking a year off to raise our 1 year old has come up multiple times due to the Delta Variant… Our child currently is in daycare but with more and more stories of kids in ICUs I am now having conversations with my husband about quitting and staying at home!!! I feel I can’t be the only mom with multiple degrees and 6 figure salary having this conversation. I am at a cross roads.

In my opinion getting a job anywhere else would be a win, despite of any other factors. You have plenty of choices available. You could work part time or as an independent consultant/contractor in your field. If you’re good at what you do, you could work less, have more flexibility and be your own boss. No need to look at this from such a narrow perspective. It’s very challenging to be a mother of a small child and work full time. I’d encourage you to explore options that would allow for more relief and joyful parenting experience.

You need to do what is best for your family. If working for WF means you lose WFH, then find an employer who values talented working mothers enough to provide remote option. That is what I did. A number of my former WF colleagues have done the same. It is up to you to find what works for your family. Complaining about your specific situation on a layoff site won't change that...

You can work from home and care for your kids at the same time.

It's not that hard. You may need to put in a little time before nine or after 5, but be honest, most of you office folks spend half your time planning lunch and happy hour and shootin' the breeze anyway.

WFH folks tend to put in more time in front of a system because we don't commute or take lunch breaks in the same way office workers do.

Beest post ever.
New comers have nothing to do with wfh, hubs, etc. WF does not give a hoot if you wfh for 10 years. If you are not within 40 miles, bye bye to your job. This is about how to easily get rid of employees, and the hub strategy will work, same with rto. That's going to cull probably 3% of the work force,

If you have multiple degrees and a 6 figure salary you can get a nanny.

Get your ish together or whine to your mommy Facebook group.

Sincerely, WFH mom of two (both under 5) with one degree, a 5 figure salary, dead husband.... and a nanny :)

You know what I want. The newcomers to WFH to stop screwing it up for the rest of us who have been WFH for a decade or more.

Your screwing around only makes it harder for us to retain our long standing telecommuter agreements.

Dear Mom: your young one may enjoy this jingle about our fearless leader..

Rubbr Chucky, you’re the one
You make Wells Fargo so much fun
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

Rubbr Chucky, you’re cleaning Stumpf’s mess
Some claim that you’re truly heartless
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

On The Layoff they say that you are la……….zy
But we know those people are all cra………zy

Rubbr Chucky, you’re the guy
Cutting jobs while pushing DEI
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

Rubbr Chucky, keep trimming our staff
We’re only happy when you get a good laugh
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

On The Layoff they say that you are la……….zy
But we know those people are all cra………zy

Rubbr Chucky, some say that you’re mean
Employee count keeps getting lean
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

Rubbr Chucky, you’re so fine
We want a place in your firing line
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

On The Layoff they say that you are la……….zy
But we know those people are all cra………zy

Rubbr Chucky, we’ll have a ball
When you host your next Townhall
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

Rubbr Chucky you’re so cute
You’ll retire with tons of our loot
Rubbr Chucky, we are in love with you

On The Layoff they say that you are la……….zy
But we know those people are all cra………zy

Rubbr Chucky it’s time to go
But we really want you to know
Rubbr Chucky, we’ve had enough of you!

Great. Again those of us without small children have to come into the office, pay for parking, etc so those with kids can stay remote? Is that what you want? Come on.

"Surviving a pendemic"...

Lol. 98.8% survivability is not a problem. I am seriously rooting for humanity to experience The Last of Us levels of plague so you can know what really checks the box for a pandemic.

Is the flu going to be reclassified as a yearly pandemic ?

Why are people equating WFH with child care. You are supposed to be working at home, not in the side when your child wants. This is one of the biggest reason WF wants everyone back. They want to make sure you're working not baby sitting.

If any level of risk is unacceptable, I presume this child has never been in a car? That's literally higher risk than COVID for a 1 year old.

OP - I totally relate. I chose to leave for a company that would remain 100% remote.

Overall, I hope that people will be understanding of hearing kids in the background sometimes as we are attempting to survive a pandemic.

Companies will lose some amazing and talented people who are still excelling though these challenges if there is not some temporary flexibility, in the big picture. It will be other companies' gain.

Best wishes to all.

OP: I have been working from home for over a year as everyone else. I have no issues going back to work in office pre delta. I’ve been paying 150 a month since 2/20, for parking just to have a Space upon my return. My biggest issue is trying to work full time with a toddler running around my house screaming, throwing sh-t and running up and down my stairs. I was asking if there are any programs or accommodations such as split schedules to accommodate child care issues this fall due to delta variant increases. If not, a lot of moms/dads are going to have to quit and live off 1 income. I am struggling currently trying to lead business calls and executive leadership documentation with up and down child care due to closures of Covid clusters. You have no idea what types of stress parents of small children are under currently. Do you all understand how many parents are going to be faced with this decision. I am currently logging back in after I put my child to sleep every night, so I can Knock out what I missed when he was up. Some nights I’m working to midnight. My work ethic is something I can’t even describe. But at some point I’m going to have to make the hard choice and I hate it because I’ve busted my a-s to get here!!!!

Your husband is a di-k. Don’t give up or interrupt your career or it will cost you for the rest of your life.

When your husband decides adulting is no fun and the divorce happens, child support will not make up the difference. Not even close.

It's a tough situation all around. I think you have these choices:

  1. Get a nanny for your baby unless your husband wants to work from home
  2. Secure a position that is 100% WFH

Personally I’m quitting because of Covid, Delta, Dinosaur work models (i.e. RTO), and consistently being thrown under the bus and expected to do more because my peers with kids can’t. It’s great that you worked your way up, but it doesn’t entitle you to keep it if Wells Fargo changes the rules.. and they can’t make exceptions for one person without doing it for the rest of the class. That establishes a bias, by the way.🤷🏻

OP: You all are more concerned with my pay band and degrees. If you don’t like your salary search Job Families on teamworks and figure out what you need requirement wise to get the salary you want. I didn’t start off making 6 figures. Did you miss where I waited tables, cleaned hotels, did free internships!!! Apparently WF has no problem paying me my salary because my resume fit the job description and pay band allotted for the job family!!! WF uses market rates and research to account for salaries and distributions , so apparently what I make is common across the industry and location pool.

Oh my gawd, now the OP is blaming the unvaccinated for her woes in having to quit. More condescension here along with her 6 degrees. You'd think someone with 6 degrees would be educated enough to understand 1) vaccinated people can still get Delta 2) If you are vaccinated, you are protected from Delta (lower risk of hospitalization or death) and 3) Being vaccinated only mitigates your risk, does not prevent you from being infected.

You're free to wear a mask in the office if you want, nobody will stop you! So if you have the vaccine like you say you do and wear a mask, you're gonna be ok Princess!

Clearly, one of your degrees is not in Science. LMAO!

My husband also does not like the idea of having a stranger in our home.

Well of course he doesn’t. He’s not the one who will be giving up everything he worked for to be a stay at home parent. Much easier for him if the sacrifices are all on your end. Dude needs to get over himself and look at solutions that work for EVERYONE in the family - not just him.

researchsquare.com allows you to publish PRIOR to peer review.

So be careful using that as a resource. Peer review is where the smart folks double check each other's work for accuracy and it's one of the key tenets of science.

Man, the internet really needs to come with a user manual.

Op here again, my husband makes significantly more than me. So it would me having to quit. Nannies in our area are very hard to find. As everyone secured them early in the pandemic, and are often given to other families by word of mouth. My husband also does not like the idea of having a stranger in our home. I’ve tried to convince him and he has basically said no, not because of cost issues but more to do with trust/thief’s.

why do you have to be the one to quit vs. your husband? If your husband makes more money and you are making 6 figures as you state then you should be able to afford an in house nanny...

It is elitist to throw around degrees and salary levels.

It shows how unconsciously unaware you are about how you affect others.

I knew this was ultimately going to turn into a "get vaccinated" anti vax elitist post eventually, thanks for getting it out of the way early.
