So last week or so Facebook mandated the vaccine but yesterday they are saying they wont return to the office no earlier than January. I thought the whole point of mandating the vaccine was to get everyone back to the office? What am I missing here?

Corporations are looking after self-interest, mandating vaccine means lower business cost for healthcare, hospitalization, and death benefits.
Perhaps companies are also concerned about how COVID19 is driving up healthcare costs. All those people who were hospitalized from COVID, many of them have healthcare coverage thru their employers which will likely drive up the cost of monthly premiums for 2022 and beyond. Those without coverage, the taxpayers will absorb. It could be companies are trying to do their part in preventing healthcare premiums from rising too much and losing a skilled workforce to COVID.
No doubt one hand is washing the other, but we’ll never hear about that on the news.
It's pretty obvious what's going on. Government is using private corporations to do things it can't do itself. If government passes a law they're stuck with an enforcement problem. If an employer threatens jobs, 99% of affected people will roll over instantly. Big business has pretty much owned government for decades, so this kind of "cooperation" shouldn't be surprising.

Don’t be naive. Mandating vaccines has nothing to do with being in the office. “They” want to get everyone in the U.S. vaccinated and large companies are helping. No doubt one hand is washing the other, but we’ll never hear about that on the news.

That doesn't mean everyone is going back to the office - but the ones who do will have to be vaccinated. Condition of private at-will employment - thank you, right-to-work.

Big tech is the new government, and as such they have to implement public policies. They do what the elected government officials want and they get tax payer funds and do what they want without interference.
The whole point is pushing a one world government trial.
They want their employees to be alive to return to the office in January.
