Does AT&T still service, maintain and install DTV? Did the installers transfer with the spin off?
I'll feel relieved when they quit running commercials with that LilyTwat on my DIRECTV feed.
Smoke and mirrors, TPG doesn’t have an existing infrastructure to move over operations so it’s still T. No way to or plans to launch satellites so DTV is assured a death. They rushed the “sale” to pad the numbers basically hide the dirty laundry in the closet so they can keep scamming the investors and try to fake the stock price up. They also just bumped up against a chip shortage and overheard in meetings is that their is no new equipment being manufactured because they have no chips for set top boxes or even residential gateways on the T side. The wheels are getting ready to fall off so they “sold” before the someone checks under the hood.
DIRECTV is not free from AT&T, as AT&T did not outright sell the business, just entered into a partnership to run it as a "separate" business (though it really isn't).
Relief from what?
The divorce might be final in the press - but so far, it's still T business as usual around my DTV yard.
We still have their logos on our trucks and our shirts. We still belong to their Union. We still have to waste time on their PLE courses. We still adhere to T's metrics. We still use their call centers, their support centers, their dispatchers and their ridiculous Atlas programs.
We still get bombarded with GTOC alerts in our email inbox that have never pertained to us in any way whatsoever.
Only now, we also get bombed with happy sycophants posting boot licking attaboys in something called workplace. So that's different.
I understand that we are only a week into this split, but man, when the judge granted my divorce, is was done and over that same day and no hanging around doing the same old stuff.
Maybe TPG needed a better lawyer?
No, not really. We were in he-l with T. Now we are in he-l with TPG. With T still owning 70% of DTV, don't expect any positive changes. DTV will continue to deteriorate at a rapid pace.
With DTV being a new company there probably isn’t a pension plan, a very small 401k match and high deductible health insurance plan. DTV most likely won’t exist in its current form for more than 5 years. Most of the company is former AT&T employees so there won’t be much innovation. They don’t even have a voice activated remote!!

More like three if we are lucky.
All of the happy chatter from on high seems to read a big push for streaming (again) and no mention whatsoever about building back the legacy Sat side of things - no mention of new birds in the sky, no mention of next-gen receivers to upgrade our 6 year old genie platform - not even a voice activated remote control - something even the crappiest of the cable guys have to offer.
I'm listening to what the happy Suits are saying about NPS and DPP sales and happy this and happy that, but what really matters is what does TPG want and when do they want it.
Return on Investment - give us back our money and give it back when we want it or you are toast.

In 5 years time we managed to completely destroy a best in class company; financially, culturally, emotionally, and in any other way you can think of. I think what they are feeling is PTSD.
DTV will be rehabed like an old house and sold to DISH within 5 years. DTV had to pay $6 Billion to spin off!!
