Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Loyalty is Admired, but never rewarded

I'm a 25+ year employee in a leadership role. I was moved to WFH 12 years ago, not my choice, but theirs. I had guidelines to adhere to as a remote employee. I invested 1000's of my own money to create an office that would allow me to meet the guidelines.

It was worth it to me in reduced commute costs. All my directs are spread across the country so there's not chance for collaboration.

Now, as I'm sure I'll be faced with a RTO soon, I'm looking elsewhere. I'm not in a go-forward hub. The financial hit that I will have to take to commute to a nearby "non-hub" location while I wait for the eventual "Non-hub" axe to fall, isn't worth it to me.

In this company, loyalty is admired, but is never rewarded. Look at your management chain. The loyal ones are rarely rewarded. It's the new guys that get the rewards.

Problem with Starbucks is you have to buy their dam coffee. So it’s really not free.

Based on your post, I'd imagine that you're highly compensated OP. Isn't that + 30 days off per year "the reward"?

It actually specifies a "large desk layout"? That must be one specialized role. In any case, it sounds like you've added value to your home. With so many WFH these days, that investment will pay off when you sell.

For those that asked how I spent thousands for a home office, my telecommute guidelines must have been much different than yours. The role is very specialized and has some requirements attached to it.

  1. I had to have a private office in my home, the guidelines clearly stated that I could not use a room that was shared by others. I spent about $1000 converting a room to have it be a usable office.
  1. This isn't a " just use a laptop" type of job. It's multiple monitors plus a large desk layout area that's required. $1400 desk
  1. Because of the sensitivity of the role, there was a few other security guidelines that had to be adhered to that required money and room adaptation.

Not every job is like yours that can be done from your kitchen table.

I'm WFH and have never heard of "requirements" that costs thousands. What are you talking about OP? I mean, if you chose to buy a desk fit for the Oval Office, that's on you. Does your role have some kind of special requirements? So long as I have electricity and internet, I have what I need for my role. Not saying yours doesn't need more, I'm just curious what you're talking about.

Wow. The Daley/Tolkien post was removed. Does HR run this site for all companies? Seems very big brother on what is always deleted.

I'm surprised at the Wachovia team member jab at WFB......all are very aware that WFB turned south the day they paid pennies on the dollar for the defective Wachovia corporation. I was here....I'm very aware.

The reality of it all, and as proof to the above statement.....Wachovia leadership was quickly moved into oversight roles across the WFB landscape when their defective corporation was rescued. Then a purge of WFB leaders began by Wachovia leaders now in the bosom of WFB. WFB been in a nose dive decline ever sense. We "are" Wachovia now.....not worth sh-t, not respected in the industry, and our leadership teams are aloof.......we are Wachovia.

I reached 25 years in March. I got a pony and my manager could spend $35 on flowers! I too have gone through the ups and downs of the company. With threats that you will lose your job if you don't live in the right area of the country is really scary. I feel like everything is being watched. For the last 18 months we have proven we are more productive working remotely. Think of the money they are saving on coffee alone!

OP, thousands of your own money to meet guidelines? What guidelines? A chair. A desk.
A monitor. Oh, maybe a printer if they allow you to download the driver on your laptop. Did you need to buy a view as well?

Okay, dipsh!t.

There is no loyalty in this WF Company. There was in Wachovia but WF f’ed that up. WF can Kiss my a-s now. I’m a 16 year employee and fed up with all the BS. Going to ride it out until they lay me off. I don’t give a rats a-s anymore what happens.

The only people whose loyalty gets rewarded are Fredo Daley and the token nepotism hire who happens to be Dimon’s son in law. Everyone else is expendable and Chainsaw won’t lost a wink of sleep when they are fired or displaced.

Oh yes, the last two roles I was in, THEY, NOT ME, made the decision to push to remote because Boo Hoo, they did not want to pay CPG lease costs. It was "There's no need for risk and control professionals to work in the office anyway." Now, by golly, Chuckie and his Posse is doing this so that they can force attrition. The result of you looking elsewhere is what they want out of all of this, you leave, Chuckie saves on severance costs, and him and the Board rake in the bucks and line their pockets.

Fugg Loyalty! I do what's best for ME! Period! Sc--w this place!

I am in similar situation as the OP but at a go-forward hub.

Some of these people commenting about how great RTO will be I think are extremely naive. The reasons some like RTO is "collaboration" and "camradere". They want to be able to see and hang out with their work buddies, work and thus do great things. Great, I am all for doing great things. However, some of us have been 100% WFH for years. In my case, a few less than 20 years. WF shifted to this model and kicked us of the office so I responded like the OP; Created and purchased my own office, shifted work-life balance to support this model, and provided more work hours to WF. There are other advantages from WFH but you can read all that in all those other threads.

There are a lot of folks in WF throughout the years that have gone through multiple reorgs, regime changes, worked on building teams, put in long hours because the busness needed it, and responding to Leadership challenges when asked. We have done great things, maybe not in the direction that we ultimately needed to go, but we responded. All from WFH. Yes, I have been recognized; Multiple Team Excellence, 2 Gold coins, and a go-to person for institutional knowledge. Promises of new roles, promotion and growing your career constantly fell off the radar. Loyalty and showing you can handle the next level is not rewarded and it shows across the groups I work with. I have seen just 2 of my peers who were on my team move on to management roles but that's it.

After all, "we" are just the equipment, "they" are the team. Going to RTO isn't going to enhance your abilities to grow in your careers unless WF changes their tone from all of us just being a number.

If you want loyalty get a dog

News flash…This is corporate America. You have an agreement with HR where they have to pay you just to get you (and all of us) to show up every day.

loyalty will at least get you a call out in a group all all hands meeting, hard work will get you nothing.

Loyalty and years of service are looked down upon under Charlie and his leadership team. It’s disgusting. I’ve given over 20 years and used to be proud of this company…..not anymore.

When I passed the 25 year mark, all I got was a choice of a stuffed pony or acrylic cube. My immediate manager recognized the anniversary but the rest of the management chain did not. Empathy and respect are in short supply amongst our leaders.

I agree. Loyalty is admired, but not rewarded. I've known for a few years that if the company was hiring me today, I would be hired in at a higher position. I only stayed because of WFH and the promise that I will get promoted when the "time comes". The sad reality is you can get more rewarded for leaving and coming back -- not for staying continuously and contributing for years.

New executives and management come in and have no idea of your loyalty and contributions. To them, you are just like the new person they hired yesterday.
