How often are people who have been with Honeywell for less than a year laid off?

You are being hired to counter act the senior 55+ person who will be fired....got to make the numbers look equal so there's no discrimination. You are being used.

Some even got hired and fired..... Before the actual start date.
So why not in the first year?

Layoffs are carefully reviewed by legal. They print books that include job titles and age to hand out to lucky winners. Every old person is balanced by a young person. They target averages for the group demographics. Older folks don't usually get Riffed though... they take a voluntary retirement with incentives. Helps the book.

Site closures are more likely than layoffs at this point.

Historically the next wave of layoffs would hit the defense areas as governments try to cut budgets to dig out from emergency spending. This cycle seems longer and different. Time will tell. Study the 1918 pandemic and the economic waves that followed.

I interviewed at several different companies in an effort to get out of Honeywell in the past 8 months. It's too late, Honeywell's reputation for treating people poorly is now legendary! Instead of calling it a stereotype, we're now going to call it a well-earned reputation! :)

HW just want cheap labor and below 55.

Lots of interns/new hires got screwed over by Honeywell delaying and pulling offers during the pandemic.

Some one said they can’t hire enough people to prevent people quitting over burnout. Sounds like they laying the groundwork for some major program failures.

@grd I agree to a point. But, if a newer hire is still probationary they can be terminated and not counted in any census adjustment or warn report. They will probably get some severance as well. Not the published minimum but a couple weeks or so.

Olathe lost dozens of rookies in the RIF last year. If there is another Covid lockdown then except a repeat!

It depends on a lot of factors (age, salary, specific business, specific job function, general economic environment and conditions, severity of RIF, internal politics).

HR is very hesitant to lay people off with 1 year or less. It's a reputation thing. Start worrying around year 5 especially if you hired in mid career.

I have a few coworkers who started around the same time I did, and none of them are stressing over layoffs. Am I wrong to believe we're not safe?
