Spans and layers has made it pointless to bother even trying to advance (paltry salary and bonus increases aren't worth the accompanying extra, more demanding, and more complex workload), and the location strategy has made it near impossible to move within the bank. I feel trapped here and hate it.

Since the thread was started.....I am openly g*y at WFB. When I came out 18 months ago was at the start of covid I received a promo a month later. Just picked up another promo at mid-year. Now making 6 figures with 20% bonus target.
The key is to be open, flaunt it, volunteer for every diversity opportunity that arises, and you'll be moved right along. My acquaintances are doing the same, it is our time at WFB. While I do still contribute, I contribute less, and am paid way more.
I would wager that "coming out" even if you aren't g*y at WFB may enhance your career.
I'm getting an offer tomorrow, but it's $27,500 less in base and no bonus. So there's another $27-30k. Gonna cost me a solid $50,000 to take the job. But I'm so frustrated here I'm going to consider it. Then I have more interviews next week that will pay more so it's a gamble. If I turn it down, I could get burned if the others do not come to offer stage in a week or two, because I have to relocate in 6 weeks or lose my job here. In a pickle! So yeah, I hate it here!
I literally had a manager tell me that taking on or learning something new would look good on my resume. I mean, sure, but wouldn't it be nice if it resulted in a good raise here?
No it does not assume anything. It means you have to make things happen for yourself. No not everything is in your control and that's where being smart, positive and creative to find a way through or around is critical. Don't try to control everything as you can't. Adapt, be flexible, have goals and check points but always be open to tweaking as obstacles arise. Don't fight obstacles, find a strategic way around them.

Just once I would like to read that someone takes accountability for themselves. Why it is always WF or the Hiring Manager or the processes fault when you don't get an interview or hired ? Maybe you are not qualified. Maybe you are not liked. But it is not someone else's fault. Not everyone is the best candidate. If you stay within yourself and work hard positive things happen. Again stay within your skill set and capabilities and WORK HARD. My strong assumption is that most of you complaining on this site are those in the company bringing your teams down with less than hard work.
After giving this company almost 25 years of my life, I am at a point where I'm stuck. I can no longer grow due to the location strategy. But, I am the only one who can control my destiny. I started applying externally about a month ago. Had one interview so far, but not feeling too good about it. I no longer work 10+ hour days. I work my 8 and that's it. With my LOB the layoffs will start in Q4 in to 2022. If I'm still here I know I'll be in one of those groups. Nothing any of us can do to change it. Take control of your own destiny and find something that is best for you.
I like that the folks who get on here and spew hate can’t spell. Says everything that is needed about them.
It is true, I tried and tried after 6 years I gave up.. I will retire next year only hope I am healthy enough to Enjoy my retirement once they send us back in the middle of Delta.
*Laid off? I'd be totally fine with that. And being g-y will get you no special favors, believe me.
Just tell them you are g-y, that will propel you right to the top.
Joined WF a year and a half ago. I have already started interviewing with other firms. I just don’t see a future for myself here.
