AT&T plans multi-year effort to burnish its brand image

Sept 21 (Reuters) - AT&T Inc
Chief Executive John Stankey said on Tuesday the U.S. wireless company will pursue a "multi-year effort" to improve its reputation with customers.

Speaking at Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Stankey said he was not satisfied with AT&T's current brand image and added the company is not currently perceived by customers as "being the best in all cases."

AT&T has so far achieved $2 billion in "cost efficiencies" out of its goal of $6 billion, which the company is investing back into its business, Stankey said.

The board and senior management need to be let go that would be a big step in the right direction. Stop with all the creative financing that does nothing.

Everything AT&T touches turns to cr-p, that’s this company’s reputation. Terrible customer service, that’s this company’s reputation. Not maintaining its facilities, that’s this company’s reputation. Slamming customers on their bill, that’s this company’s reputation. Treating employees horribly, that’s this company’s reputation. Incompetent management, that’s this company’s reputation. No amount of advertising money is going to change any of that.

And not to mention employees think the company is pretty much the worst. When the problem is inside, it spreads to outside and he doesn't give a s**t about the inside issues.

Lipstick on a pig. You can’t BS your way outa this one Stinky. The underlying problems have not even begun to be addressed outside of a bunch of corporate jargon blast press releases to ease investor frustration. It’s easy to see just how bad it is, look at the last quarters of cost cutting by forcing retirements, layoffs in departments you’re gonna need to actually pull off a miracle. Selling assets, pulling out of the media and on and on and then the giant elephant in the room, the mountain of debt. It has all amounted to NOTHING. Nothing, the company is worst off now, trying to claw back into communications with a demoralized skeleton crew that honestly is just waiting for the bottom to fall out. It’s over for you too Stinky, you are just delaying the inevitable.

Reputation can’t be brought, its earned. Since customers and service don’t matter, now they want to care about brand??

Cost efficiency money to be reinvested back into the business, not going to happen. This is executive spin, without specifics or commitment, Stankey words are meaningless.

Probably too late. Running some cheesy new ads isn’t going to help this company’s reputation. They’ve been crapping on their customers for decades and don’t care about providing any type of service to them.

I bet PRIME retail stores will do the trick….it’s comical to imagine rebranding a company by converting core stores into a fraud infested circus

So we have 4 billion dollars more to go in cost efficiencies. I am sure Stankey is counting on 10-20% retirements by end of this year to pay for some of that. Then may be stop any additional payments into pension. Then stop paying medical subsides. Then sell AT&T Mexico. Then cut another 10-20%. This company and more importantly this dude is a joke.

All you had to do was not ship call centers to India (NUMBER 1 complaint among customers) and invest in fiber and real 5G years ago. Now you want to spend billions to BS customers while the core issues remain? Sorry Stinky but you need to go.

Getting a new CEO would significantly shorten the multi-year effort. Achieving only 1/3 of $6B cost efficiency goal is handwriting on the wall. Expect having to once again do more with less (less headcount, less benefits, less raises/bonuses). Sadly less stock price too...currently target is below 30.
