Vaccine Mandates for Work

So the govt is going to make us all get vaccines to come into work. Yet as I watch football games across the country hundreds of thousands of fans sit less than a foot apart. This is both the NFL and NCAA as well as MLB. It is all across the country as well. Last nights Yankees and Mets games were huge, but hardly any mask were worn. The powers to be have already said to wear masks outside in close contact areas. There is no way these people are all vaccinated, so what gives with the govt there. I work at an office that I can easily be six feet from others. I am vaccinated as well, but some of my co-workers are not and they have had covid and have anti-bodies. There is more to the story than just wanting to have everyone vaccinated, or these huge events would be shutdown. They sure shut them down last year. Maybe they are just looking for control.

Clearly you are a medical genius, hence you are ranting on an OXY layoff site, move on and shove off….

With more data coming out, countries and states with the highest rates of vaccination now have the highest rates of Covid. Meanwhile with mass distribution of certain cheap and effective medicines some countries have all about eradicated covid. OXY should be testing BOTH vaccinated and unvaccinated and track where are all the covid cases coming from - who, vaxxed or unvaxxed? Need better science before doing such one for all.

Why are certain people being exempted from these broad mandates - Congress, Pfizer, FDA, CDC, no mandates for these employees. Plus other select government entities?

I am vaccinated and just got my booster, so hopefully I have protected myself. If they go to mandates and we lose good people that is going to suck all around. Everyone has a right to their own choice and that is why testing needs to still be used. It gives the non-vaccinated a way to work for companies. I would prefer that people be tested a little more than once a week, but then we can all test as well even if vaccinated.

If they are going to mandate then it needs to be for everyone except the ones who can't get it for legit medical reasons, and let those people work from home. I would also put pregnancy under the medical reasons.

Look at what is happening. Mandates are in and testing is out now. The company will go to mandates without the testing option except for medical reasons to be qualified by the company occupational health department. That means you will have to open up all of your medical records to the company. This could be expensive and embarrassing depending on what your little health record secrets are like.

Was told today that the testing requirement is coming to an end in the next few weeks, but was offered no more information than that. In my opinion that means one of two things. 1. Vaccine mandates are coming

  1. Enough if the workforce is vaccinated and (This is a stretch) they realize it is not necessary to test anyone and just go about business as usual.

All you need to be is overweight a little, and that is a risk factor. Don't try to shame people into not getting the booster. If your doctor approves it that is all that counts. Good for those that can get it. I get mine Monday under my doctor's care and I am not 65. Hopefully it will protect me and protect you and others from me.

Post ID: @jaum+1cNPwSFS

If you are not 65 you will not be able to get the booster unless you have medical conditions. And shame on doctors if they authorize it for you if you do not meet the criteria. But you can just go to CVS or Walgreens and lie about your medical conditions. This really is the most mo--nic system that I have ever seen to have criteria issued by the government and then go on the honors system without people having to provide documentation from their doctors.

If testing works then fine for those people. I am waiting on the booster before I head back to the office. The way they make it sound having the vaccine only covers a person for a short time. With my age (over 60) I am just going to get the booster before heading back and taking any chances. I put in a call to my doctor today to see if i can get on the list. If I can't get the booster I will just need to see if I can WFH until my doctor can give me the okay. I have seen too many people get sick and a few have died from Covid. For me I just am not going to chance it until I get the booster.

Not really, testing is quite easy and am very glad/thankful that Oxy has chosen this option.

I would think getting tested every week is a pain in the rear end compared to getting two vaccinations.

Or get tested weekly like the policy says. I have not seen the mandate for everyone to be vaccinated at Oxy unless I missed that email.

We work for a liberal oil company. Yes, an oxymoron, the king of them maybe. Focusing on direct carbon air capture instead of oil exploration? Maybe a gamble that will pay off. Time will tell. Anyways, the vaccine mandate is coming. The “voluntary “ attestation is to figure out potential loses in the company if they don't meet the insurance companies threshold of vaccinated employees. If it was about health then natural immunity would be given a fare shake. But it isnt. It doesnt matter if you had covid and recovered. “Get the vaccine or else”. The vaccine does not prevent you from getting or spreading covid, yet we only test the unvaccinated?

Bu-----t. The people who are not getting the vaccine can’t be shamed. They are the biggest as-----s that society has to offer. We could give up shaming because these people just don't give a sh-t about society but as long as we can reach a small percentage of them it is worth it.

Get the shot if you want it, and wear a mask when you are around people. Protecting yourself and family is the top priority and you control all of that. Wear a mask in your car, outside, at work, and at home. Double and triple the layers of masks to protect yourself. Stay away from people and only be around family members. I am from Texas and just gave you the same advice Dr. Fauci and the CDC would give you, and don't forget the booster shot if you can.

Judging and shaming people is the worst thing that has went on with the vaccine, and if left alone people would have been vaccinated by now. When you start demeaning people you are picking small wars that just push people away. The govt has handled this in all the wrong ways. By the way genius you much thing a lot of yourself.

Illegal immigrants that are sitting under the bridge in Del Rio not to mention the ones that have flowed through unaccounted for. As of now there are 11000 illegal immigrants under the bridge with an estimated 8000 from Haiti. Haiti has less than a 1% vaccination rate as a country. Since January 100's of thousand have crossed the southern border. It has nothing to do with being a Dem or Rep. It has a lot to do with being consistent across the country and not letting some not get the vaccine. Plus there is so much confusion around the vaccine people are just confused. Just yesterday the FDA voted no on booster vaccines for the ages 16 and up. That was after our President and his administration started pushing the boosters before the FDA had even approved them. They had even already ordered the boosters from the dr-g makers. The FDA did come back and approve 65 and up and those with issues that would require being protected by the vaccine, and that was an emergency order. I have been calling my doctor for the booster since the President said get them, and it turns out I can't even get it because the FDA says no. Also yesterday a new study came out and said pregnant women should not get the vaccine, and studies are showing there could be issues with the vaccine and pregnant women. Just think of how the ones that got the vaccine must feel now. The vaccine has not even been out long enough to study the effects on a full-term pregnancy. Stop making it about politics and use your commonsense. The more we let the politicians divide us the worse off we are. Respect people if they want to be tested instead of getting the shot. No one made any of us the God of the vaccine. For sure it has it's benefits, but it is no different than respecting someone who does not want the flu shot, shingles shot, etc. Everybody always talks about Fox as well. There are just as many following the talking heads on CNN and MSNBC, so stop calling being the p-t that is calling the kettle black.

@5bsg+1cNPwSFS Where are you getting information that legal immigrants are not required to take Covid testing? US requires covid vaccine for most “legal” immigrants. Of course biased news channel will never tell such news. In my opinion my tax rate has never gone down irrespective of any political party in power in last 30 years.

Have you not listened to the President? He wants to use OSHA to push his mandate, and met this week week very large companies like Coca Cola. Did you not see the fine they want to impose on companies over 100? It is like 14K, so I think you need to read up a little or at least read current events. You are right about the testing, but it will just evolve into a mandate for all to be vaccinated except under certain religious and medical exemptions. The point is if citizens are going to be required them immigrants should as well. As well in this new tax bill the govt wants the IRS to monitor everyone's checking acct. They say it is for the ultra-wealthy, but in reality that will trickle down to you and me as well. This is a huge power grab until 2022 when we send the Dems packing and they lose both majorities. But you are right tell let Oxy know you have had the shot, or test once a week. So if you take your one test a week on Monday, and it comes back negative then you are clear to go the rest of the week. I guess people don't get Covid Tues-Sunday.

Neither Oxy nor the federal government are mandating vaccines. You have a choice. It could just as easily be described as a testing mandate with an opt-out if you get the vaccine. Personally, I think you're an id--t if you don't get vaccinated, but it isn't a condition of employment.

None of this makes any sense anymore. Our world is upside down for sure. You have 11,000 illegal migrants living under a bridge in Del Rio and none have to get the vaccine if they don't want it. But the govt wants to mandate businesses to do their work for them. This is just crazy.

Most doctors don’t read any technical articles unless they are specialists. Most don’t formulate any opinions different from what the FDA guidelines say. It truly is amazing how much blind respect we give to this profession.

Here's a summary of the data presented in the myocarditis article that's being pushed on the thread:

Myocarditis risk after second dose of vaccine for:
boys 12-15 0.01622%
boys 16-17 0.00940%
girls 12-15 0.00130%
girls 16-17 0.00134%

The risk for healthy adolescents being admitted to a hospital within 120 days of infection in the US was stated as 0.0044%. The article did not split the risk by s-x or age, nor did it indicate if the adolescents were vaccinated, so it's not possible to calculate the increased risk for boys with the data given. Importantly, there were no data given to indicate the risk of serious complications associated with myocarditis.

This is a perfect example of a lay person misinterpreting a study that's clearly intended for healthcare professionals. Your concerns are legitimate. Talk with your doctor, ask tough questions, and stop pushing information you don't understand.

“ I strongly encourage you to discuss your concerns about the vaccines with your doctor and not play amateur doctor online. ”. Good advice. Everyone should talk to their doctor about vaccines and stop telling other people what they need to do. That goes for EVERYONE except for the government who’s going to mandate that everyone get a vaccine regardless of what their doctor says. Oh and if you think everyone should be required to be vaccinated, this advice is not for you either. You can go ahead and play amateur doctor all day long. As long as you quote the CDC, you’re technically not playing amateur doctor, unless you quote a study that raises concerns about the vaccine, and then you are playing doctor. Clear enough? Oh no, now I’m starting to sound like the CDC.

@4upj- Since you referenced the CDC, have YOU even read what they recommend regarding child vaccinations? I'll save you some time...

"CDC continues to recommend that everyone aged 12 years and older get vaccinated for COVID-19. The known risks of COVID-19 illness and its related, possibly severe complications, such as long-term health problems, hospitalization, and even death, far outweigh the potential risks of having a rare adverse reaction to vaccination, including the possible risk of myocarditis or pericarditis."

I strongly encourage you to discuss your concerns about the vaccines with your doctor and not play amateur doctor online. You are not qualified to interpret the findings from a retrospective study which has not yet been peer reviewed.

@3mjj+1cNPwSFS. Did you even read the study that you were commenting on? This “mild” heart condition is MORE likely than hospitalization due to Covid for teenage boys according to the study. As a parent, I’m not sure I would have my teenage boy vaccinated if he were more likely to suffer a heart condition due to the vaccination than get sick with Covid. That’s true even if he might be a carrier of the virus since vaccinated people are also carriers and according to the CDC are just as likely to be contagious.

What do the weakest thinkers observe? This is just another way for the government to control me. I've never had COVID and never will. If I get COVID, it will be a non-event. I probably had COVID, but now I probably have natural immunity. I definitely had COVID and it was bad, so I definitely have natural immunity, probably forever. I feel my natural immunity is getting stronger over time.

“ On the other hand, how many people of all ages will these unvaccinated boys infect with COVID over time?”. Vaccinated boys can infect people too. So says the CDC.

Oh jeez. Go ahead quit your job with it's Cadillac health insurance, way above average salaries, annual bonus, WFH and all sorts of other support (like virtual mental healthcare...) and discounts offered (fitness memberships, etc.). I can't believe I work with people who still question vaccines and masks. And judging from the upvotes, there's a lot of you. Stop with the conspiracy theories. If you get sick, injured or suffer long term consequences from a decision made by the company, you're gonna be the first to sue them for negligence.
