Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Dues refund

Tired of waiting for the union to represent me. attending meetings, voting, writing letters, calling union office and contract talks has not worked. i feel we are not in a better position than 10 years ago. The last resort is to go after their money, and money is what moves these people to move in our direction. Withhold your money until we get representation. Did you know that you can ask for some of your dues back every year, since the union has become a circus. here is how, copy letter below and email to agency-fee-admin@cwa-union.org

Name: (your name)
Last four of Social:
Company you work for: (AT&T)

Dear (Name of union)

I object to the collection and expenditure by the union of a fee for any purpose other than my pro rata share of the union’s costs of collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance adjustment. Please reply promptly to my request. Finally, please consider this objection to be permanent and continuing in nature.

Where do all the union dues go after paying into the fund for decades? Has anyone ever seen the balance sheet? I believe we should be in a union but never see any amount being paid out! You would think we could hire someone that doesn't every contract agree to what the company will only allows.

T has always done what they want. The union talks a big game and that’s it. Look how they are going on about the vaccine. In a few days, they will come back and say they tired. We all know who they work for.

There you go, the union lost yet again. ATT doing whatever they want.

You know what, I am sending my email today, to get a refund on my dues. The union is worthless.

Update #4 - Impasse
Given CWA's position against mandates, and the Company's position that it will not agree to any proposal that does not include a mandate, we are effectively at an impasse in the negotiations. Under federal labor law governing the effect of impasse, the Company intends to implement its policy. The committee will continue negotiations with the Company over the terms of the policy, its implementation and its effects in the workplace. We will be making proposals about implementation and effects of the policy.

The union is a necessary evil unfortunately. Corrupt as the company….without them ATT would eat our lunch. But make no mistake IBEW 21 were the biggest bunch of lying, back door dealing, goons ever. The fat chief steward never knew NOTHING….always asking what we were hearing. What a joke!!

@3rpi
The bargaining notes you read in the past involved a pending contract expiration date. That is not the case with the current negotiations.

If the parties don't reach an agreement, they walk away and the situation stands as it is. AT&T wants something, and if they want something, they have to give something.

If there was no union, there would be no negotiation, and occupational would be under a vaccine mandate like the management.

The case that the Union brings no value is not sustained.

@3vle+1cMIVSiw i have read enough bargaining bulletins in my last 32 years to know that they are filled with hype and untruths.
ATT is not going to pay for weekly testing of thousands of employees, this i can guarantee you.
CWA will not win this as they are presenting. The costs will be added to monthly healthcare premiums or employees will pay directly for testing.

Today, the CWA bargaining committee met with AT&T and rejected the company's proposed mandatory vaccination policy for Union-represented employees. Our committee further emphasized that CWA supports voluntary vaccination programs and opposes mandatory vaccination as a condition of employment. Our committee then introduced a counter proposal which provides incentives to employees who volunteer to be vaccinated, as well as those who have already been vaccinated. The Union's counter proposal also includes a testing option for employees who choose not to be vaccinated.

Without the Union, the company lays down the law, and changes the terms of employment arbitrarily.

"Quitting the union is difficult. " not in a right to work state. All that BS in the contract about the way to do it can't be enforced.

Quitting the union is difficult. They don’t want to lose that money so they delay, create excuses, point fingers and so on. There’s a clause in the union bylaws that allows the union to force you out for disparaging the union openly. Bad mouth them and each individual local executive board member until they force you out. Newspapers and local news outlets are your friend, just be truthful.

The Union is a joke. I don’t pay my fellow union members do representation. We pay people that are supposed to help the members. They just don’t! So many give backs in the last 25 years don’t justify the dues we pay. It is sooooo obvious that the CWA is in bed with the company and every contentious issue is just a show. Just a lousy dance number that does little for the worker.

You can go one step further and quit the union.
"While you're at it, maybe you can give some of your union wages back to the company. "
I do twice the work of lazy union workers. So they should fire them and give me their pay.

It ki--s me to see all these ppl complaining about the union when they go to the table to get you things each contract! Remember there is strength in numbers, and a union includes YOU. What have you done to help the union help you?!? sidenote, reach out to your regional rep if the local is not doing their job! you can find them on the cwa website for your state. that, WILL get a fire under them... I have done this once myself... Even having to do that , I realize that the union is valuable!

“… It’s also because of being in a union that I AM NOT BEING FORCED to take the jab either…”

Uh, that changed the other day. Roll up your sleeve,"

actually, you are incorrect!!!
TWO WORDS

Nondelegation Doctrine

THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT HAVE the power to delegate what he said on TV! Congress is the only ones with powers to make things become law.... check it out for yourself! ALSO, ONLY businesses with GOVERNMENT money (not tax breaks) are being blackmailed pretty much with that speech he gave. MY UNION still has me covered up to this point!

@1lek+1cMIVSiw you are confusing the message. The author of this post never said that he wants to remove the union, or else he would call for a dicertification vote.

This is a call to all those unrepresented members to withold a portion of their money so the union is forced to act on their needs.

The enemies in the battlefield are not only att, but the leadership of the union that breaks bread with them.

By all means , feel free to transfer into one of AT&T’s many non-union non management titles where they have less pay and less benefits. Let us know how you like it then. You’re an ingrate who doesn’t appreciate how well you are paid as a CWA represented employee. NMNU employees would ki-l to have your pay and benefits.

Unions are a joke, always have been. Lay in bed with the companies and take money from the workers. They are powerless , just a bunch of hot air no action anymore…..unless it’s political action that is. They care more about how you vote than how you feed your family…..remember that

This was probably posted by a higher level labor manager that wants to cause issues in the union before contract renewal time! Wake up! I know every group has issues , but the ones complaining SURE DONT mind taking in that automatic raise you get YEARLY due to the contract! How about not being able to be fired outright and having arbitration processes when there is a write up ?!! HOW ABOUT , having protocols where you CAN GET RECOURSE! How about contractual paid holidays! I’m sorry , I am PROUD AND HAPPY to be a UNION MEMBER! It’s also because of being in a union that I AM NOT BEING FORCED to take the jab either (it should be my CHOICE not forced ) so, count your blessings ! The ones you seem to forget about when you are complaining !

You can demand the percentage of your dues refunded that are used to represent political candidates ( in a non right to work for less state) but if I’m not mistaken you I’ll no longer be a member in good standing

The more members start asking for refunds, the more likely the union will act. Hit them where it hurts.

@dek+1cMIVSiw Members have a right to complain. If they are not being represented then the National Labor Relations Act allows them to act against their Union. Your solution of turning a blind eye to the issues and only looking at the good parts of the contract is the reason why we are losing. Here in the west, ATT obliterated our leaves, absence language, health benefits, early retirement language, our call centers, to name a few and the union has refused to go out on strike. Are we supposed to just be content that we have what we have and not fight for more?

You don’t stand a chance at att without the union. Take a look at the wire/prem techs. This company will stomp you into a mud ho-e without the union. Not sure what your complaint is but, you probably are a habitual complainer that all to common at this company. Ever notice nobody leaves. They just complain. ……

39 yrs in. All union.
They pretend to fight, then go out (on our dime) to fancy restaurants and cocktails.
Don't believe it?
Email your district Prez, VP, and all the rest.
You'll be told be your local prez to stop and follow the chain of command.
They care less about you than the company does.
Just keep paying those dues.
