Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Do you buy Chevron gasoline?

I consider it, if it's available and competitively priced. I usually end up at Costco or Shell. What about you all?

I get Chevron for the card discount. Gas is gas. The Retailer has very little to do with the supplier with the exception of a few relatively useless additives.

Tend to go to the Valero around the corner... unless it's expensed travel. I don't care, but manager might.

I only buy Chevron gas from the same gas station. This way if I have bad fuel I know which station it came from. I used to buy cheap gas at Racetrak, Sam's, Kroger and my car struggled to pass emissions test. When I bought a new car, I only used Chevron and Techron . 10 years later not emissions problems.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- At first Chevron told us they did not know what the problem was with the gas; now we know and we also know there are more than 50 people who had trouble with the fuel.

According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, the agency that inspects gasoline across the state, Chevron premium fuel had unwashed gum content in it.

The state says unwashed gum content leads to sticking in valve and deposits in injectors and can cause damage to some engines. The problem was first reported to the company July 2 and Chevron than stopped selling the fuel.

Chevron tells the state that it now has 970 claims over the fuel and is now working with drivers to resolve the problems. The state is also now going to test the tanks at the stations that sold the bad fuel that causes engines to disintegrate.

More fake cool stories, bro, and unproven anecdotes., Cool, it' storytime! Find a story online and fill in the blank with "Chevron gas", easy to make up thousands of fake stories like you did without effort. Chevron and other gas stations rarely sell exclusively their own fuel so there's no point in going own about it. The two are not even related. Wow that last post was a really triggered individual obviously same loser butthurt about something. Again, get a life... yawn..

Galveston driver says bad fuel ruined his car

Joe Simmons of Galveston recorded the dark brown muddy mixture he siphoned from the gas tank of his Maserati. The once speedy sports car sputtered and burped less than a mile from the Chevron in the 600 block of Broadway near the Seawall in mid-August. It’s where Simmons had just filled it with 20 gallons of premium gas.

“I took the video,” explains Simmons. “I went back up to the gas station, showed it to the manager explained that you know, I have bad gas, and that I bought it here and he says I had no complaints, he’ll check. He’ll do tests and call me back. I gave him two days, nobody called me back.”

But two days after he reported his issue to the clerk, he noticed the station shut off all of the premium and supreme pumps. Then workers began digging near those same pumps with a tent and tools.

“I can’t get the name of the manager or the station owner. They refuse to cooperate,” said Simmons. “I talked to the court this morning. They said by law, they’re supposed to have it posted in the station and nothing’s posted.”

We wanted to help Simmons get answers. But KPRC 2 Investigates got the same run around when we stopped by. We tried asking the clerk questions about the alleged bad gas. Here is what he had to say:

“Everything is all right. Everything is all right now,” the clerk told us. “We fixed everything. Everything outside, but what was his complaint? I don’t know. Maybe he got water in the gas.

You should learn to search before opening your mouth.

There's an update on the problems with Chevron premium gasoline. We told you one Tomball man was afraid to drive his truck after the company suddenly stopped selling premium; now another driver says his car's engine was ruined by the gas. In an Eyewitness News exclusive, Chevron is now promising to make things right.

The signs were still on some gas stations on Wednesday told telling the stations cannot sell premium or mid-grade fuel, and while Chevron has not said what's wrong with the gas, one driver tells us it ruined his cars engine.

This is not Jamal Caliste's Subaru, his car is in the shop with a ruined engine.

"He said there was something in the gas that totaled my engine," said Caliste.

The Houston driver says he put Chevron premium gas in his car that was just 6 months old, and the dealership has seen another with the same problem recently. Last week, Chevron stopped selling premium and mid-grade gasoline at all its Houston locations and now Caliste wants an explanation.

"If Chevron knows there is something wrong with the gasoline they need to come forward, find out what's wrong and repair any damages that have been caused," said Caliste.

Chevron says the fuel did not meet its standards and is apologizing to customers.

"Chevron is committed to getting to the bottom of it and getting this right," said Brian Coomes Chevron District Manager.

Coomes adds the company first learned of the problem with the premium and mid-grade fuels July 2nd when drivers started complaining of performance issues.

Coomes says Chevron stopped selling the gas at all its Houston stores and is now trying to figure out exactly what's wrong with the fuel.

Coomes says any driver with concerns or who has damage caused by Chevron premium gasoline should call the company right away.

"Bottom line, you are telling me right now, if the consumer was harmed, the consumer will be made whole?" we asked.

"We are there to help the consumer," replied Coomes.

If you bought Chevron Premium Gasoline in the last few days and have a question about the fuel, call the company at 855-285-9595, or email them at cccweb@chevron.com.

Chevron spokesman Kate Glaubitz says stations are testing premium fuel tanks now and two thirds of the stations are cleared to sell gas without major engine damage.

Sure I do. Why would you not buy Chevron/Texaco gas, it’s a top tier gasoline. If you’re a Chevron employee or retiree, you get a 16 cents discount per gallon when you pay using the Advantage card.

There is no discernable diff between the gas, the state mandates all gas must have cleaning additives in it. If you own a regular car there is no need at all to buy Chevron Gas, Consumer Reports has said there is no real difference as well. If you really believe the hype that Chevron puts out you are a fool easily separated from your money Remember the goal of advertising is to program you into making an emotional decision not a rational one. If you want cleaner bathrooms then fair enough or better fraud protections perhaps. Never use a credit/debit card at the pump go inside. Or use the apple card instead it's tokenized

I still have the company gas card they issued to me when I worked in the field office. I’ve been gone since November 2020 and the card is still active. I recon I have filled up my personal F-150 truck about 3 dozen times since I left. What's great is the card has another 16 months before it expires. Happy motoring is in my lucky cards.

Costco is not a refiner so I would be very, very careful with their fuel. They could be selling you anything. Good luck collecting when your motor is ruined.

There is a standard for all unbranded gasoline - it is ubiquitous.

It is very common for refiners to supply all gas needs for all outlets in the refinery footprint even the majors.

The only differences between outlets is the thimble full of snake oil (Techroline, V-Power, etc.) added by majors and underground tank maintenance which is only an issue for Ma and Pa operations and not for the majors and high volume retailers like Costco/Fred Meyer.

I was in the business with a major my whole career and have no problem routinely filling up at Costco and saving $0.30-$0.50/gallon or more. In my view brand loyalty is misplaced.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a dealer contract, but what I remember is the dealer was only obligated to buy 51% (or some other negotiated %) of the brand on the sign. So you may not even be getting Techron unless the station is company owned.

Lately CostCo has been fifty cents cheaper than any place in town, including Chevron. Maybe not the best gas, but my car runs on it so I buy it. If I get 15 gallons, I save $7.50 which is enough for lunch at Costco!

I had a Chevron gasoline card since I was hired on in 1990. Even as a retiree after 28 years with Chevron, I continue to fill up at Chevron and Texaco stations. My Techron Advantage Gas Card affords me a 13 cents per gallon discount. Not too bad, but was even a better savings when gas was recently at $1.39. I say, any discount is good.

Man, guess layoff has become a social board now. Let's get back to talking about the juicy details of HR, how D&I metrics are the driving force. Come on, man

As ged+1cL9UsxX stated base gas is the same. Additive is the difference; whether it's techron, hitec or some other variation of oga. Top tier nomenclature is just that the end retail/fuel station adds in just a little more detergent, cleaner or additive in at the station. Understand how the fuel market works and commodity trades between an areas producers to see where your local product comes from.

Always Chevron if I can find one. I fill up at Chevron out of loyalty to Chevron; I will always be grateful for my long career at Chevron. But that loyalty doesn't mean I think Chevron gasoline is materially better than other brands. You can go into Costco and buy a case of Techron. Then you can fill up with Costco gasoline, add the Techron, and create a tankful of gasoline that is probably better than the typical Chevron gasoline (it has a lot more Techron additive for sure!).

If I’m on a road trip the the fam, Chevron is the last choice because the bathrooms are always a wreck. The franchises don’t give a rip about cleanliness. Shell always has better bathrooms. There is a Chevron station that I fill up with on my regular drive. Costco works too, and they have top-tier gasoline all-the-same. I imagine Chevron employees aren’t owning vehicles long enough for the long-term benefits of Techron to effect reliability. It’s not like folks are commuting in 1996 Saturns.

One of my jobs in upstream was to sell Chevron natural gas including to Chevron refineries and chemical plants. Chevron downstream would only buy the natural gas that was cheapest and sometimes stiff Chevron upstream. That is why today I buy whatever gasoline is cheapest.

Techron additive does make for better gas. However if use other brands, you can buy the TEchron cleaner/fuel injector and periodically dump in tank...

Amazing. Chevron give us a discount, which makes the cost competitive. Costco is dregs because they buy the cheapest gas available, not likely to be the same on any two fillups. Any mechanic will roll their eyes if you mention off-brand gas. At least stick to a major.
