Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is the new 'loudspeaker' a response to this layoff site?

We keep hearing about 'loudspeaker' as a way for employees to voice ideas for improvements.

It's hard not to think that this layoff site wasn't primarily responsible for the development of that program. People use this layoff site to share information on a variety of topics (not just layoffs) that management can't be relied upon to fully share. This bothers mgmt because of the neverending need for damage control (damage control that mgmt themselves created the need for).

Loudspeaker seems like a way for the bank to attempt to get employees to voice their concerns in a way that no one else sees, unlike this public site that anyone can see and contribute to. It's like the store-brand version of this layoff site.

In other words, use an internal platform where your idea more or less goes into a secret black ho-e instead of publicly voicing your concern for all to see.

(Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that people shouldn't use the new loudspeaker. I'm just saying that such a program and the timing of it coincides with this layoff site becoming a lot more active since COVID began.)

You disagree that something 5-6 months ago wasn’t great, but it’s better now after they’ve had time to work out the kinks? Ok.

I completely disagree with these comments. Loudspeaker is simple and effective. Senior leadership sees our feedback and significant changes have been made because of it. Just because your idea wasn’t implemented doesn’t mean it’s a waste of a platform. Keep submitting feedback that you want to see.

It is a sign up sheet for layoffs. When you submit an idea your name goes to a layoff tracker to be placed in line with your LOB.

Projects like Loudspeaker come about because someone in HR or some exec read a white paper about happy employees being productive employees.

Projects like this usually fail because what makes happy employees is better management.

the loudspeaker program started before COVID, and was designed to replace the "idea builder" program which was an expensive failure. It started as pilot in the branches, then to all branches and now is getting rolled out to other areas of the firm. it has nothing to do with this site.

He brought the idea with him from his other stops that created a similar program

Maybe we could suggest that the bank, you know, ditch spans and layers and the location strategy? Oh -- and how 'bout raises and promotions?

You're crazy if you think that many people look at this site. Also I think Loudspeaker is for ideas, not complaining.

I would rather use this site b/c it is open to the public and is not censored by HR & Co. I don’t believe for a second that Loudspeaker is created to hear team members voice. If anything, it could be used for retaliation.

It’s just another opportunity to hire a new team of $100k+ consultants, and waste the time of the $200k+ executives that have to personally respond.

I submitted an employee benefits idea only to get a “no thanks, too expensive” from the executive.
