Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Well, the Bronco isn’t going to save Ford…

From the Detroit Free Press, where usually anything printed about Ford comes straight from a Ford press release:
Fighting production challenges and consumer demand, Ford Motor Co. no longer is accepting online customer reservations for its all-new, full-sized 2021 Bronco, as the automaker had been since the launch of the high-profile SUV a year ago, the Free Press has learned.

Ford sent a memo to dealerships last week titled "special announcement" saying "Bronco Vehicle Reservation Paused."

A new Ford Bronco on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne.
The Free Press obtained a copy of the memo, which said:

"Based on Dealer Council feedback, effective Monday, August 23rd, Ford has paused the creation of new reservations for Bronco vehicles. The decision to pause reservations is due to the high number of Bronco 2 and 4-door model orders and current commodity constraints.

"Customers are encouraged to work directly with their dealer who can help with the ordering process, delivery timing expectations, and build specifications. For example, dealers can best guide if a customer may be able to get a stock vehicle that’s already built or scheduled. Due to the high number of orders, delivery of Bronco vehicles placed today will extend through (the) 2022 calendar year."

The execution of the past couple of years belongs in the "TOILET". People outside SE Michigan are starting to take notice and it has impacted their decision. I tell relatives I will not give them a PIN. Not with the way TVM has impacted our product. Instead of focusing on quality Jim wants to overwhelm them with gadgets and gizmos. Focus on quality, focus on reducing buildable combinations, Hey HTT you sure talk out of both sides of your mouth!! Last year reduce complexity now you must be moonlighting at "BURGER KING" order it your way... Does anyone up in the management team have a ounce of common sense? Don't blame the engineers they only do what they are told. TVM still a PR Objective. What a "JOKE"! How many recalls and band aids are caused by TVM.

I had a Lincoln with an electrical problem that would cause the touch screen and every indicator and gauge on the panel to go dark. The heater or AC would turn off. The radio would switch over to AM radio at full blast. Couldn’t tell how fast you were going, nothing! If it was turned off and allowed to sit for a few minutes it would reset and everything would work again. It was such an annoying problem especially when it happened on the E-way. The dealership never could figure out what caused it as they said it was too intermittent. It was a management lease vehicle so I was only stuck for a year but imagine a customer spending almost $70,000 for a vehicle and having to deal with that.

We had an Explorer that locked and unlocked itself, dealership never figured it out so we eventually traded it. It was almost like it was possessed, you would be driving along and then hear click-clack-click-clack-click-clack like a metronome. Worse yet you would return to your car in the parking lot and find it unlocked. I worry that with the unreliability of complex software on top of already challenged electrical systems that there will be many bricks on wheels in the future. Especially since we are building in brick mode into the software (so we can charge for upgrades, service and new features- and so we can hide our “secret sauce”)

What is it with Ford and their electrical problems? I have a 2019 Escape with an electrical problem that the dealership can’t figure out. If the doors are closed and the back hatch is opened and closed the parking and interior lights come on and will stay on until the battery is drained. I figured out that if, after closing the back hatch, one of the front doors is opened and closed the lights will go out. I know about this issue and make sure it doesn’t drain the battery but the other two drivers in my family forget and it causes problems.

Keep still accepting orders (and delivering). So much for penetrating this segment. Ready, fire, aim. Another great failure at Ford.

Saw a Bronco with soft roof opening and closing as they drove along Crooks Road this weekend. When she pulled into strip mall, I followed and talked to her when she had parked. The woman driver indicated it just started opening and closing when she was driving. It continued to do this as she sat in park. Suggested she turn off engine and let it sit a few minutes, and then restart. She did so and that seemed to resolve the issue. A bucket of not good, electrical issues are a pain to diagnose and fix.
