DirecTV breaks free from AT&T

I love the title of this article, it says it all. I think everybody working here is looking for a way to break free of this place.

Six years after AT&T swallowed DirecTV with ambitious plans to modernize the satellite TV business, the telephone company has retreated, returning DirecTV to its roots as a stand-alone company.

Firstnet is a complete scam and theft of public funds. It was created because T won a government contract to provide a dedicated wireless network for first responders and they took the money and spent it on their TV adventures. Instead of actually creating a new network or upgrading their current wireless network they just carved out a piece of their fake 5G or in most cases LTE for the new sims that fake out uses with “firstnet” on their screens. Purchased a couple of mobile antenna trucks and pretend they are actually doing what they got paid for because they know their is hardly any oversight or audit from the government. Just another kickback. This was supposed to be for first responders and they are scamming the government and stockholders by selling it to the general public. Call your local officials and media. These thieves need to go.

Let's not forget about the FANs being added to accounts that really don't qualify for that discount and benefits that come along with it. All to make it appear that more people are subscribed to the highest rate plan and free HBO Max.

coming from a 15+ year wireless employee i'll spill the beans on theses worthless ceo's and over paid clowns. the company will never be successfully there to busy manipulating the company. its been like that from the start, currently att is tricking all the stock holders and wall street jokers with HBO max subscribers . all those subscribers are just wireless and internet users get it for free ,they ain't paying $15 a month..... tell them you want the actual number of PAYING subscribers expose these jokers. DirecTV now was another scam they had employees slamming accounts on customers to boost subscribers, there's a few articles about that which made the news.. first net ... another scam all new employee tablets are being activated on FirstNet to boost and manipulate the subscriber base... i could go for weeks exposing this company. lets talk about the 3g turn down.. they banning all none att hd voice phones off the network. customers unlocked device wont work if they don't have hd voice, doesn't matter if they are lte. put the sim in a phone and it'll be suspended without warning the next day. ill contiune to expose this company over the next few weeks in more detail.

Employee discounts end at end of 2021. Retiree discounts likely to end shortly after that in early 2022.

Look T is a mess but DirectV would have lost a shi# ton of customers either way. Very few left want to pay for satellite TV except my 80 year old mother-in-law or people in rural areas with cr-p internet. #facts

@lqi+1c9SUGp9, T will own an initial 70% stake in the shares, but they will no longer be involved in any of the operations of DTV at all. Nothing. DTV is stripped entirely of the disgrace of the T brand, and it will operate as a fully independent business from T.

So, while T may still gain the benefits of shares (for now), they are not the 'owners' in the sense of actually running anything. Here's an analogy: You may have a tapeworm that is ingesting 70% of all the food you eat, but that worm doesn't tell you what, when, where, or how to eat.

That's what's going on here. T is now just a parasite, as we all know it has always been.

Maybe some don't know how business works. Just sayin'

I had always loved Directv. It was a 100% upgrade in experience to cable which always had problems. Then ATT took over Directv and it went downhill. But I stood with it because cutting the cables altogether for me wasn’t going to work because then you’re relying strictly on the Internet. No one I know has flawless internet. Mine is mediocre at best (also ATT) even though I pay for it’s highest strength and I live alone, so no one else sharing it. Streaming is always an issue. But with Directv satellite, I am always up and running with things to watch. And my picture quality is better, too. I hope Directv returns to its good service once they are free if ATT.

The best, and most honest quotes in the article"

  • The AT&T brand will be stripped away as part of DirecTV’s efforts to simplify its message and repair its reputation among consumers.
  • AT&T’s ownership of DirecTV was disastrous.
  • In six years, AT&T lost nearly 40% of its TV subscriber base, resulting in one of the highest levels of so-called “churn” in the industry.
  • “Some of our churn was self-inflicted,” Morrow said. “It wasn’t because consumers didn’t like the service — it was because we were doing different things internally.”
  • “For all intents and purposes, AT&T is now out of the pay-TV space.”
  • DirecTV had long been known for sterling customer service, but AT&T dismantled that
  • Customer defections began accelerating within a couple years of AT&T’s purchase ... [AT&T] launched various versions of a streaming service — DirecTV Now, AT&T Now and AT&T TV, all of which sputtered in the market.

All of this is 100% true. This is the T legacy in summary. It's not pretty.

Way to go, Stink!

Only30% free!Just remember that T still owns 70% of the business so why would anyone think that they are free from T? Directv is a money making machine and even if you think T would give up cash flow then maybe some don’t know how a business works! Just saying!

The sense of relief, happiness, and emancipation among the few remaining DTV employees who've been liberated is immeasurable. The closest description (and one I've heard a few times) is like someone having been kidnapped or otherwise wrongly imprisoned finally being set free.

There was nothing positive about T invading DTV. Nothing. T did more damage in five years than anyone could imagine. They got rid of talented, experienced, and smart employees who have moved on to other careers. They destroyed customer trust, which won't be won back. They drove off more than 25% of the client base who are gone for good.

You T-tards who still think the deathstar is a good place to work deserve what you get. Keep deluding yourselves. But just remember, the guy who engineered the DTV disaster is the same one who engineered the DTV Now disaster, the destruction of Uverse, the failed ATTTV nonsense, and the Warner fiasco. He is still the captain of your ship, and there are still many parts of the business he can make worse.

The future for DTV is definitely grim, because there is no way anyone can fix all the damage done by T. But at least for now, for one day, the DTV employees can feel good again. The air is fresher, the sky is more blue, and the birds are singing because T is finally gone.

Another benefit to bite the dust in 4Q when I’m sure they’ll announce no more active/retiree discount.

No, you are not looking to break free. You want to be paid by AT&T. You just don't want to put in the work.
