I honestly thought that people who claimed here they were looking forward to being laid off were full of it. I mean, why would you be on a layoffs page if you're not worried? Well, I was wrong. I'm now at a point where my work situation is so bad that I'm praying to be laid off. If I'm not, I'll have to quit, and I need the severance. So my apologies to people I called liars before. You were right. There is a point where being laid off becomes preferable to working here.

Severance if you can get it - you will have to wait your non-working 60 days before accepting an offer - but I found I benefitted from the break...
I picked my company, picked my job, interviewed once, got more than I asked for and a signing bonus the week I became eligible - plus a 15 year cash payout from WF and couldn't be happier!

Its expected and budgeted in hiring costs so dont be afraid to ask for it
Some of these comments are just heartless and lacking in reality. If your job is terrible, unless you have a financial cushion to just walk away, you can’t. You’re stuck in order to earn a paycheck to provide for yourself and family. Perhaps the OP is already looking for jobs. You don’t know he/she isn’t. But applying for other jobs, going through the interview and hiring process takes time. So I’m sure the OP knows applying elsewhere is an option and may even be pursuing it. He/she is just saying that if they can get laid off before finding another job, that would be ideal so they had severance to fall back on while looking for other jobs to keep themselves afloat in then interim. Stop being so cruel.

Look around you - when was the last time you tried to call help desk or HR - things are becoming LESS efficient and the replacements are far less capable of solving problems.
But more fundamentally you and I are te--orized by a management chain that is working overtime to get rid of us while America burns.
Stabbing labor in the heart IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ECONOMIC AND PANDEMIC DISASTER is neither the right thing to do, its not compassionate nor responsible.
In Q1, Wells Fargo earned a net $6,000,000,000.
Thats ONE SINGLE quarter.
Projecting for rest of year thats over $24,000,000,000 a year.
There are 250,000 people working at this bank - doing simple math they could EASILY afford STOPPING layoffs and giving every single worker a payraise of $96,000.

Plenty of people I know want to get laid off. If you're old enough and have the years of service, it's called early retirement.
You must work in Corporate communications. That describes how we feel every single day.
I worry about being over 50 and having to market myself again. So while part of me would welcome a layoff to move to something new, I’m holding off on applying elsewhere while I do some upskilling to make myself more marketable. If/when I get laid off, then I’ll make finding my next adventure my full time job.
wait for package but also start a side hustle, get it to where you can move to it for full time compensation
I have 25+ years with this company. Moved a few times (some they paid, some I did). I'm no longer at a point where moving is what's best for my family. I also know I would get a decent severance as I believe it is 2 weeks for every year of service, capped at paying out 52 weeks. However, I am not going to wait around for a severance that will be coming. Would it nice? Maybe. What is better is my looking externally so I can continue to take care of my family. But, everyone do what's best for their situation. And, realize you cannot control the layoffs that will be occurring. I think at this point we are all aware we will be impacted in some way.

Age + years of service = early retirement. Nothing to do in my opinion but wait it out. I'd retire but medicare is too far off. Plenty of folks have no intention of finding another job.
I'm simultaneously readying my resume to look outside the company and hoping I will be laid off before I jump ship.
Why wait for a layoff when you can start looking now? I smell bs and someone who just wants to whine.
Waiting to be laid off from a job you no longer want to be in sounds extremely passive. Make a plan to get another job, work the plan and leave. Take control of your future.
No need for a severance, get a job elsewhere and resign. New employer will pay you, so who cares about severance?
