Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

No point in excelling at what you do

Years ago excelling at what you do meant good things for your career. Now it means the opposite. In a work environment where being average at everything is the encouraged norm, excelling will earn you more work and less chance of advancing your career (if you stand out, you're not a team player!) At Honeywell, the rule to follow is "be average and profit."

Honeywell does everything possible to keep you from excelling. When you do it is typically stolen and credit is either taken or given to the bosses favorite.

Precisely the warning Ayn Rand issued in the 50’s. When achievement is punished and looting is rewarded (ie capitalism’s opposite), achievers will eventually join the looters.

Concur. There is no reword at Hon for excelling. You will get piled on with more work if you get things done. No mater how big the pile gets you will be remined only about what hasn't been done yet. Leadership just look at how much you are being paid and want it reduced.

Many of the defence contractors methodically weed out those over 45-50 in order to create a more coachable and cheaper workforce. Few reach normal retirement age.
