Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Not enough work for service techs and premium techs

If they are looking to cut plenty of excess employees doing nothing in the field. Any plans to reduce? Or do we continue sitting around drawing a paycheck? How's Stank doing on meeting Wall Street expectations?

How many years have they been wrong on “a lot of work coming down the pipe” as they tell us?

Yes, T needs techs, maybe not right now, but the projections for work to come will be overwhelming! The fiber buildout will definitely require techs all over. I agree, we’re sitting around a lot with very little work to go around, but they keep saying it’s coming! I hope the supervisors are right, but in the meantime, how much longer will T allow techs to collect paychecks for low productivity numbers? For myself, I couldn’t care less if the work never comes to fruition! I’m quite comfortable and guilt free getting checks for free!

Come on over to the Prem Techs of DirecTV where three guys have 2 jobs between them and one of those jobs cancels. Glad to be paid by the hour and drive time counts.

1wdi…..apparently it seems like T needs a lot of techs to sit around and not do anything most of the time.

@1hyr, lots of specials in different areas get 1 trouble & an order or 2 weekly, not daily. Must be nice to be covered up in work.

Specials usually gets a trouble followed by an install or two daily. Some installs take time depending on the fiber length needed to reach the customer, or copper T1 and voip cable plant problems. Cable repair could take over new T1 installs, they get most of the T1 troubles anyway.

If you’re a technician, pretty much any kind of tech, I would worry about getting laid off...not gonna happen! T needs techs, period! Work is shifting and you have to be flexible, but the needs are there within T!

I can’t understand how this company even operates the way it does. They hire techs when there’s limited work without threats of downsizing. There are enough techs to each do one order per day, usually no more, easy peas. My question is, how does low level management justify this to senior level VPs?

1qri: so the folks who install & maintain AT&T internet service shouldn’t expect to stay busy?

bro you are ignorant as he-l ...the writing has been on the wall for the past 20 years of where this company is heading. if you dont have any work it is because your work is being phased out. enojoy your paycheck while it lasts.

It’s the same out here as well with techs sitting around with very little work and there is a job req for another tech to be hired, insanity! I’m not complaining because you can’t beat this job! You get paid to sit around working only a few hours per day. Even when it’s busy, it’s still easy work...gotta love it!

And they keep hiring more! Stop the insanity now.
