Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

An example of T mismanagement, confusion, and incompetence

I was with DIRECTV for about 4 years before T invaded, and with T for a little more than 4 until I left - basically the same amount of time at both places.

While with DTV I had two different bosses. The first for 3 years and the second for 1.

While with T I had 4 different bosses. The first was the DTV carryover and lasted almost two years. If you're doing the math with me that means in my final two years with T I had three different bosses. Three. The last one was only a few months before the surplus notice.

The reason? Constant, incessant, pointless re-orgs. There were zero re-orgs with DTV. In my 4 years with T there were five. I stayed with my same team for the first two, with all of us being moved under different VPs both times. The last three split up my team each time, and moved me under three different bosses. In two years.

And people wonder why T is such a clusterfrog.

I retired from AT&T after 37 years. All outside.
I had at least 21 first lines. I may have forgot a few.
At least 12 deuces.
They move folks around just to be able to say they did some work.
That's why I never took any boss, good or bad seriously.
They come and go, but the checks show up every other Friday-and that's all I cared about.

It strikes me that in a corporation absolutely full to the brim of unmotivated, beat down, ambivalent workers...none quite match the DirecTV crowd. Not saying I blame them, as the ruination of their once admired company by T was unusually swift while also thoroughly complete.

Mangement at all levels gets move around for the sole purpose of their career ladder, nothing to do with the success or failures with the orgs they temporary manage before or after. They continue to build a perception of success on their resume.

The rest of us who do the actual work, continue to educate, train, hand hold the next noob coming into the door, so they too, can re-explain basic fundamentals to their uneducated higher ups. This set of fools who claimed they are not the smartest person in the room, runs the company down, drives away talents, continues to demoralize those who haven’t left and the cycle repeats.

The same thing has been happening to me my entire time at ATT. There’s a reason we are in last place.

That’s the T way, constantly do stupid things
with no meaningful reason! IE not the way to run a successful company.
