Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Why are there so many rumors about severance plan change?

I don’t understand, do people like to spread panic or do these rumors really have some real foothold?
I don't believe that the severance plan will change, but nothing would surprise me more than this company.
Maybe someone misinterpreted the story that Allstate's poor working conditions forced people to leave on their own without severance pay, so they wrongly concluded that there would be no severance pay??? Does anyone have any more detailed insight about this?

If you’re genuinely curious if the severance plan has changed (2 weeks for every year of service I believe) you could monitor the severance plan summary under the good life benefits website. Pretty sure it’s in there with all the other summary of benefits that the company offers. If they change it mid-year just to sc--w people I’m sure we’d get correspondence about it and some bu-----t legal agreement we have to sign to remain employed ⏳

They don’t have to pay severance, and if they can cut it out trust they will! He-l some off us are getting laid off after being BTE employees for years and receiving several awards....none of that matters since our jobs have been eliminated!

They might try to reduce severance pay, but I think the real reason you are seeing it mentioned here is because it's being planted by HR. They want to get people to quit instead of laying them off, so if they can make you think that the only thing you'll get is unemployment and a small severance amount, they win. It appears that the VTO was anther stab at the same tactic.

You do know severance isn't a requirement right? Allstate learned from their mistake last year and has adjusted. Also, if nothing surprises you then why are you questioning the restructuring of severance pay?

Never bank on getting severance. It's a nice to have if they do lay you off, but never expect it'll be there and be looking to exit on your terms or at least have another opp lined up before they do drop the axe

No idea myself but there has been enough posted often here about it not to think there isn't something to it. The way the company lost its a-s on unemployment and severance nothing would surprise me. Severance isn't a requirement so there's that. And severance has not been paid out at every layoff (just ask CCC and the former Woodridge in 2013).
