I wonder how much longer T management will wait for the work to come. My productivity this week was 7%. The work seems to come in spurts, but mostly less than more often. Ten years ago I would have been concerned of layoffs, but now I think the company seems to be more tolerant of the downtime. So, I’m not sure at this point at least for the rest of the year we’re safe!

SSIM is always safe from cuts. We actually need more people to show exorbitant amounts of exception time & hold down chairs in the office, but don’t worry, “we got a lot of work coming”.
When anyone asks or on any questionnaires tell them "Yes, I am planning to retire before the end of the year, I just have not decided the actual date yet". If enough people in your organization respond like this they will take their sights (temporarily) off your group. Of course when the end of the year is very close you can always say that circumstances have changed and am no longer planning to go this year. It is only a delay tactic but better than nothing...
No more layoffs for the remainder of 2021. Some business units are actually still hiring, lots of job postings in careers link of T. I think T has to assess their needs which takes time and gives the employees some breathing space!
If you need subsidized healthcare leave - retire by 12/2021. If you don’t, work till you decide to retire. Don’t worry about it.
no place is safe and there are too many mouths to feed.
“Synergies” (AT&T’s new favorite buzzword for layoffs) are coming… every article you read about synergies you can replace the word with “layoffs”

Malicious Synergies has a more upfront ring to it.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Yeah, sure. T is run by a super genius who cares more for his employee's welfare and security than his own, and T not only values every person there, but will go out of their way to protect them and give them the best possible benefits in order to keep them.
Sigh.
"Lots of people are vocal about leaving. They know or think they know who is leaving. "
Smart people aren't saying anything to anyone even if they're planning to go. Given the treachery and utter dishonesty this company has repeatedly shown itself capable of, it makes no sense to tell anyone affiliated with this place anything about your plans until the very last minute.
The debt pressure isn't going away. The executive rank treats cutting employees like it is a revenue stream, don't count on it ever stopping.
It depends on your business unit. Lots of people are vocal about leaving. They know or think they know who is leaving. Some groups will get to their budget reduction numbers by year end with folks leaving. Plus the unit can then backfill the folks that left next year or bank the savings. There may be some strategic cuts but only groups that aren’t top heavy with retirement eligible folks will have actual cuts.

How do you exactly supposed to notify HR?
Heard last week - the people to plan to retire this year need to notify HR by 9/2021 so HR can complete the paper work on time.
i don't know why you are worried. i heard from a very reliable source from the c-suite no more cuts this year. i have heard stankey has been working with biden regarding our job security and the enhanced 5g rollout.
%100 safe nothing to worry about.
T took a haircut on the Warner Media and DTV sales. Ask yourself, “where will they get those unthinkable billions to pay for those messes?” From the employees left is my guess to that question.
I truly believe there will not be any more cuts this year, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief! Do you get the point? My guess is as good as anybody’s! Nobody on this site knows anything, merely speculation. Just go about your business both professionally and personally cuz you’ll be the first to know if it does happen in your business unit!
John Stanley's mantra: "No one is safe". Don't be fooled into believing this has changed. As far as layoffs are concerned, we haven't seen anything yet, when they start it will be a bloodbath.
Totally safe now that we are refocusing on telecom.
No
Yes-Maybe, The number of employees leaving this year due to pre-Medicare medical cut is unknown. HR does know the number of employees this will impact but ultimately doesn't know if they'll be leaving by end of year 2021. Whatever the number, the most experienced and knowledgeable employees will just walk out the door leaving a skills and expertise gap of epic proportion, this is a fact!
Only the C-Suite is safe from cuts.
McSelfish stated he could not rule out surplus in Q3 or Q4. So expect them from next month.
At least for a few months?
